Re: Returning to air cooling after 10 years of custom loop .
My sound deadening habits: - I aim for a system that is very quiet in the evening at idle and then it will be "silent" during the day. - I usually connect all fans to the CPU header with a y-adapter and then the system is quiet for 90+ % of usage time. - I mount the fan on the CPU tower cooler to pu...

You are on the right track with your replacement fan choice as the most important part is the fan thickness is 25 mm. There are different editions of the cooler. You'll have to get out the ruler.

Any of those will do if you use a duct so that the turbulent air coming off the blades has time to moderate before encountering the grill. I cannibalize loud fans to make 25 mm duct sections.

Re: hum in Antec P180 mini
Technically I'm not answering your question, but instead I will give some general advice. It could be: - a disk drive - diagnose this by temporarily removing a power connection - a fan - fans having to work harder when you close off the big easy air by closing the case - diagnose this by temporarily...

Generally, when gaming, the CPU heats up as the GPU heats up and I have used one or two Y-adapters connected to the CPU PWM fan header to control PWM type chassis fans.

Re: Do PWM case fans make sense?
From a quiet PC perspective it makes more sense for the case fan to be temperature controlled because it is more audible at the case's outside edge than the CPU fan which is inside the case. I have often used a PWM fan splitter cable to operate both the CPU fan and case fan on the CPU fan header.

I, also, was going to suggest that you didn't need a cpu cooler fan for your particular setup. As you have tried this option with inadequate results, I will the suggest ducting. You my get your desired requirements if you duct one or both of the chassis fans. The ducting may not need to be closely c...

Re: Single front fan - thoughts
I suggest trying option 4. The air is quite turbulent coming off of the fan blades. A duct the width of your roll of duct tape will allow the turbulence to moderate before hitting the grill. Hm interesting. I thought it wouldn't have enough pressure to push air out through the restrictive front gri...

1. save the original packing material from the case
2. use the factory included cooler rather than a tall heavy cooler which would torque the motherboard.

Free things which work well enough for you: - I've found that the CPU fan sucking up from the heat sink is noticeably quieter with a less annoying noise character than with the fan blasting turbulent air at the heat sink. - You may not need the drive cage fan at all as the air from the 2 from fans h...

Generally you should: -1- test your system and record the results -2- make a change -3- retest and compare the results I second that plus it would be a good first step to record your temperatures. This will help you decide in how to setup your fans so you can get adequate cooling as quietly as poss...

Re: Scythe Kama Flow 2 decent replacement for Globalwin NCB?
It has been demonstrated many times that push-pull fan configurations give very little improvement over single fans whether on the CPU cooler or on the Chassis. Scythe PWM fans don't use very much power and you can safely run 2 of them from the CPU fan header using a PWM Y-splitter. With this config...

I know that I'm not answering your question and apologize. But:
- Your problem would not exist if you would be happy with 3 monitors or less as ASUS and Gigabyte make fanless versions of the GT 520.
- By the time you buy this card and a quiet cooling solution you could buy 2 cards.

I can give some general advice. The review at jonnyguru commented on the loudness of the oddball 135mm size fan. The review photo of the fan does show that it is a standard 2 wire fan and some people would experiment with putting a resistor in the red wire to drop the voltage.

Re: How does this silent workstation build look?
I would build the system without buying any additional fans and see how it works for you. To me very quiet at idle means that the computer would make an almost imperceptible non-annoying sound when you are at a 1 meter distance. This very quiet situation would mean that the computer was around 1 dBa...
