Re: x570 - unplugging the chipset fan

I don't upgrade very often, but when I do, I prefer top go with the fastest and most feature rich chipset available. Does the B550 support PCI Express 4.0?

Re: x570 - unplugging the chipset fan

Also, worth noting:

My research reveals that only MSI and Gigabyte offer BIOS fan controls that can actually shut the chipset fan off for silent operation, when temps allow it.

Re: x570 - unplugging the chipset fan

Update: For those that may be interested, I came across this thread in another forum where, a few posts into it, this precise topic is discussed. It has been executed successfully, and some have DIY solutions with pics: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/asus-ws-x570-ace-unbearable-pch-fan-noise.2...

x570 - unplugging the chipset fan

Greetings all! I'm trying to pick a motherboard for an x570 build. I've studied images of the MSI boards and noticed that the chipset fans can be easily unplugged. I would ensure that a larger, lower RPM blows down on the chipset heatsink. My question: does the MSI board sound an alarm when this fan...

Re: NVidia GPU always runs full speed when using multi scree

I currently have a 560 Ti installed in the PC that uses 2 monitors. Does the 3-D clock-speed-while-in-desktop exist with this card as well? I guess the answer would have to be yes. It never occurred to me to check until now, but I can't since I am at work.

Re: NVidia GPU always runs full speed when using multi scree

Thanks for the tip. I would much rather do that (buy a 2nd el cheapo fanless card or use iGPU on my next build) than deal with a 3rd party software fix. This whole thing still seems crazy though, given that this card is 2 years old now. So is there "officially" a driver fix to this that in practice ...

Re: NVidia GPU always runs full speed when using multi scree

Wow this isn't fixed via the drivers yet? I just bought a *gasp* GTX 480, and now I am hoping my room doesn't heat up from doing dual-display productivity work. As for those who might be wondering, "why a gtx 480?", I can only say that it is dirt-cheap right now for the performance you get. I think...

Antec Solo - maximum size video card

Does anybody know the maximum length video card the Antec Solo will accommodate without modifying the drive cage? I've run a few searches at this forum with no luck. I am apparently not choosing the right search phrase.

Edit: what is up with my signature??

I feel I should correct myself in this thread. The buzzing I am hearing is NOT coming from the PSU. Though my fan exhibits a clicking noise that is only audible within 1 meter, I feel I should correct my misstep in posting false info about my HX520W. It has been removed from my case, yet I still hav...

Personally, I always buy a different model if one lets me down, then RMA and sell the replacement I get. Keeps the rig fresh and prevents frustration. I'm going to follow your advice on this. RMA request was just sent to Corsair. Hoping this will be as painless as possible. Now it's time to review ...

It's the fan. It starts off with a soft clicking noise. Leaving the PC on for a while allows it to progress into a louder "buzz". Options: a) RMA b) Experement with a fan swap ? @Das_Saunamies, thanks for the info. I have the Antec 380 in now, and it runs fine. My only complaint - it just isn't as q...

Add me to the list of HX520 users with a terrible buzzing. It began a few days ago and has worsened. It does so at idle. I had to stop every other fan in order to isolate it (8800GT, Antec Tri-cool, and Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro H/S fan). I bought this from Amazon less than a year ago, so I need to...

Re: How to Pick the Right Cooler that Best Fits Your CPU Siz

The new mounting kit that comes with the Thermalright Venomous-X heatsink creates a dangerous amount of contact pressure, although we were able to tighten the cooler all the way without incident. Thermalright's Ultra-120 eXtreme, Cogage TRUE Spirit, and Cogage Arrow all use a similar bolt-through k...

Re: Venomous X question - will it mount a 120 x 38mm?

The Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm x 38mm Fan, 2000 RPM looks good. It is not. Don't get it. I have the 3000 rpm one. SPCR tested all three. They panned them - and they were too kind. If you really want to pressure get two GTs or two Apaches. Or order one of Dorthy Bradbury'a fans from the UK. I ordered 2...

Absolutely. Probably a Zalman controller set to ~7-9 volts.

I think I have my answer. Some googling lead me to this (plenty of pics):
overclockers.com forum member review.

I didn't know the wire clips worked the way they do until scrolling down and getting an up-close view of how the fan mounts. It seems any 120mm fan will do, regardless of depth.

Venomous X question - will it mount a 120 x 38mm?

I have a Venomous X on order. I am currently shopping for a 120mm fan to mount on it. This Scythe Ultra Kaze 120mm x 38mm Fan, 2000 RPM (DFS123812L-2000) has my attention due to the 38mm depth that provides more static pressure, probably making it a good choice? I know the "recommended fans" section...

It's a DVI handshake issue, for sure. Many HTPC owners have had to resort to using a device called a DVI Detective to keep their video signal live to their display to solve this problem. I have the same issue with my Dell monitor, though using the same hardware and an older CRT monitor with a DVI-V...
