Re: New Machine - matx i7 build - comments and help welcome

I don't understand why you want to buy a 600W PSU for your system. Without a dedicated graphics card it will draw 130W load at maximum. I tried some combos on those power calcs and addes a AMD graphics card as this may possibly be a future addition if I fancy trying a hackintosh. So was looking for...

New Machine - matx i7 build - comments and help welcome

I have been relatively happy with my Q6600 in an Akasa Eclipse with Seasonic PSU and Ninja Heatsink. Now its time for a new machine to last me the next few years. My current shortlist which I like critique and suggestion from your experience (Small tower case this time): Case: Fractal Define Mini (C...

Re: Silent Home Server Build Guide

Anyone know if the eSATA side of things is like USB and is plug and play. This is for a non-RAID setup. I'll like to run Linux as a server where its primary duties would be to run services. Oee of which is SAMBA for file sharing. However, I like to have a set of eSATA disks that is serving unimporta...

New HTPC - old PSU. 20 pin plug, 24 pin socket compatibility

Just ordered all the bits for a new i3 HTPC. As I have a relatively quiet Seasonic S12 430 watt PSU I was going to re-use it. Spent an age fixing the Big Shuriken (why do they have those twisty plugs under the heatsink with no access?!!!). Tidied the cables etc. And then came to plugging the power i...

Atom and esata external fileserver

I need a machine to be on most the time to run Ubuntu with Apache, Tomcat, MySql, Sabnzb (binary newsgroup daemon), Transmission (torrent daemon), SSH, Squid, DansGuardian, Samba filesharing and a bunch of other minor services/daemons. It will also be used as a part time desktop for email and surfin...
