Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor

I have had two retail i7-4770K processors. The first one ran about 4-5 Degrees C hotter than the second processor. After testing both chips, Haswell runs hotter than the i7-870 processor that it replaced. With the stock Intel cooler the first chip was getting into 80 degree Celsius range. I am curre...

Re: Cooler I should get for an AMD 7870 video Card?

I actually got a 7950 which adds 60 watts more heat. There was a recent price drop on the 7950 and 7970. The 7950 has no effect on temps when it is idling. When the GPU is under load, the hard drive temperatures are not affected by the video card. There is a fan in front of the hard drives and this ...

Re: AAM/APM for Seagate Barracuda 3T (ST3000DM001) 3-platter

Seagate has posted at least two firmware updates for this drive. I have updated my drive firmware to Version CC9D. It still makes the parking noise but at a much lower frequency(less times per day). The firmware can be downloaded at the USA Seagate site by searching the site for "Firmware ST3000DM00...

Re: Cooler I should get for an AMD 7870 video Card?

The reason for the concern is this machine is 85% business machine and 15% gaming machine. I also know I should not be gaming on a business machine but I do not have the money or space for a second computer. The machine is running at standard speeds and will never be overclocked. "Pretty similar in ...

Re: Cooler I should get for an AMD 7870 video Card?

If I go with an open air cooler would it help to zip tie a low speed 92mm exhaust fan to the bottom card slots to help remove the video card's heat? I was able to test a reference Amd 6870 card in this machine. With the Acousti-pack sound damping installed the card was tolerable when gaming. The GPU...

Cooler I should get for an AMD 7870 video Card?

I am planning on getting an Amd 7870 Video card and need help on the cooler card combination I should buy. My system specs are an Antec Solo II case (Acousti Pack sound damping applied) , Intel I7-870 with Thermalright mux120 Heat Sink, 3 7200 rpm hard drives (all suspended). I am using three Sythe ...

Questions about the case modifications

I have the following questions on what you did. How did you attach the MDF to the front panel? It looks like rivets. Did you glue them with epoxy glue to the front panel? How did you offset the MDF? What did you use for rubber gasket material for the opening of the back case fan edge? The holes you ...
