Re: FS: Seasonic SSR 360GP 360W power supply
Well, usually they go for 70 at retailers. Then you know...add 13% tax for the region. Comes out to 80 dollars or so

Re: Multi-purpose home server - advice needed
One nice thing about the DN2800MT is that it'll run fanless in pretty much any case (pretty much any != literaly any however). You could go dumpster-diving for a suitable case if you're handy and want to save $30 actually. But without a case fan in a mostly closed case, the board will run hot and y...

Re: Quietest GTX 650 Ti
as an owner of one of MSI's gtx 650 TI's with the cyclone II cooler, i can tell you that it's quiet but far from silent. I have 2 scythe PWM fans that typically run in the 600-800 range, and the cyclone II is definitely the dominant sound source here. still, as a gamer, i am happy to strike the bala...

Re: Multi-purpose home server - advice needed
In that case I will probably stick with a single stick of 2GB sodimm and expand upwards if needed. I might also be able to get a hold of this for $30. It's ugly... but it saves me $30+tax off of the m350 and also has space for a 3.5" hard drive. I've noted a few people on teh interwebz having powere...

Re: Multi-purpose home server - advice needed
4G is likely overkill. It depends on the OS and so on. Less RAM means lower power consumption and risk. Be careful with RAM. You're building a server with consumer gear. Regular RAM can go bad without warning and cause all sorts of problems. So this is not the place where I would try to save a coup...

Hi everyone So in the end, what I decided to go for was something like this... Intel DN2800MT Minibox M350 (Second-hand for $45) Mushkin Essentials 2x2GB 1066 SODIMM (or any other cheap ram set) WD Blue 1TB 2.5" laptop drive (or cheapest 2.5" drive at time of purchase Cooler Master NA90 Laptop Power...

Re: PicoPSU vs external DC power brick
I will look up that dell brick, but as my potential purpose, I was thinking this could be used for the Intel DN2800MT (atom-based board) which a lot of people note draws less than 20W. The power specs ask for 19V DC in via an external brick.

Re: PicoPSU vs external DC power brick
Thanks, Quiet!
I guess my other question, then, is that for DC-powered motherboards will any power brick theoretically do? As in, I can get a laptop brick and as long as it fits and has the correct power rating as specified by the MB, that's fine?

Thanks for the replies
So then, it doesn't really matter what PicoPSU I get, as long as it 1) has the connectors I need and 2) can support the wattage that I need? And the more important thing is to get an efficient power brick?

PicoPSU vs external DC power brick
Title says it all Debating getting an mITX board with a direct-to-DC power connector vs a more "standard" motherboard that I can attach a picoPSU to. Purpose is home file server. Thinking of either an atom or celeron-based board. One hard drive. Question: Which one is more efficient at those sub-100...

Re: Multi-purpose home server - advice needed
The 2800MT sata power is 1Amp @12V rail, 2.5A @5V rail and 0.5V @3.3V rail I'm not sure if I understand the specs on the WDEARS 1TB drive though... 1.65A (peak) @ 12VDC 5.3W read/write So... i'm guessing the intel board does not supply enough power for my particular HDD? I appreciate the input every...

Re: Multi-purpose home server - advice needed
To be honest, I'm more concerned with overall cost than I am with power consumption per se. Fanless operation isn't a must. It'll be sitting far away from my ears. Also, a small case is important to me as well. Regarding the power delivery... I feel like a 300+W PSU will be overkill... what are your...

i suppose that means i should rely on a software-based backup system for my files onto an external hard drive? i have plenty of those around, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Multi-purpose home server - advice needed
thanks for the feedback, hfat for storage, i wasn't thinking anything complicated. Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe and Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B Push-Pull
See title. It's possible. No hardware mods needed. Acrobatics are essential What I had to do... 1: lose the fan clips. I used a series of zip ties to attach the two fans in push-pull (Scythe Slip Stream 120mm x 25mm fans) 2: be wary of the backplate. there are a lot of bulky circuitry on the back of...

Re: New quiet(ish) PC/Hackintosh build - thoughts?
If it were me, I would remove all those drive bays in a heartbeat. Go pure SSD or mount the hard drive in the 5.25" bay drive with an adapter. The SSD itself can be just taped to a side panel if you need more space. Of course, that does make it harder to "swap" as you said, since you have 2 actual o...

Bitfenix Prodigy Quiet Build - Fans?
Hello everyone A simple question. Has anyone had experience with the stock fans that come with the bitfenix prodigy? I love the look of the case. However, I have to factor in the cost of fans into this build and it'd be great if the stock fans are acceptable (even if they need to be undervolted). Th...
