Force a hard drive to stay spun down?

I have a WD Blue 1TB hard drive which I use for games and cold data. It's the loudest part in my system but it should be able to stay spun down when not in use. Even if I tell it to spin down manually, it usually spins back up within a minute or two. I'm not using any of the data on it, so I'm not s...

Re: Can you guys recommend me some case fans?

You might end up selling both 7770 and get a single GTX760 or something from AMD, that will reduce your heat and top dps. Exactly your problem is the reason for me never to recommend low-end x-fire or SLI. GTX 760 TDP = 170W 7770 crossfire TDP = 80x2 = 160W So it really doesn't matter. I'm just loo...

Re: Silent $700 Gaming Rig (inaudible at load!)

Thanks! The hard drive is mounted on rubber o-rings to reduce vibration. An SSD would be the obvious choice, but it wasn't in my budget. The exhaust fan is the SY1225SL12L. The Silencio 550 isn't bad for room behind the motherboard tray. I was able to stuff a lot of extra cables back there. The foam...

Re: Silent Lian Li PC-A04

Beautiful build, big fan of this setup. I wish I could run without a discrete GPU as builds like this can stay so clean without them.

Re: Recommendations for fans/cases? Trying to rebuild a nois

Most PWM fans from Nexus, Scythe or Noctua should fit the bill for you. Your best bet for the video card would likely be to fit it with an aftermarket VGA cooler. A new VGA card would be more costly and might end up being just as loud. The case has an effect on silence, but the components inside la...

Re: NVidia GPU always runs full speed when using multi scree

I use nVidia Inspector as a fix for this as well, and it works on my 550ti. The only thing is that I have to manually undo it if I want to clock back up for playing games.

CPU actually idles 5 degrees cooler with the video card clocked down. The 550ti is a hot little thing when it's at 900mhz.
