Re: WD RED noise: new ones are louder?
I'd also like to know what's going on with these drives - currently looking for a 4TB to replace a 3TB Seagate which produces more airborne noise than I'd like, but lots of people are now saying the new WDs aren't quiet at all...

Re: Gigabyte r9 270
You set a custom fan speed curve with the Gigabyte OC guru software - there's no lower limit on the speed though so you can spin down to nothing.

Gigabyte r9 270
Just wanted to let other users know that I got the gigabyte r9 270 and the fan can be turned off at idle using the supplied fan control software. In my system there's not quite enough airflow so I have them running between 5 and 10%. Though it might be useful info to put out there...

Yes, the seagate sv35 is a lot quieter than the wd drive, I'm happy with it...

Re: Quieter 1TB drive than WD Blue?
You're right - it's the airborne noise that's the problem. It's actually already suspended so I think there's no hope for improvement. I'm baffled as to why this supposedly quiet, single platter drive should be louder than my 3TB Seagate. Weird. Anyway, I'm returning it now, see what happens with it...

Re: Quieter 1TB drive than WD Blue?
Actually I'm kind of confused as to why my WD Blue is so noisy, all the reviews seem to say how quiet it is and it's only a one platter drive - seek noise isn't a problem but the sort of white noise it makes while spinning is noticeably louder than my Seagate drive. Weird.

Re: Quieter 1TB drive than WD Blue?
Thanks QFS - I'll certainly look into the Seagate drive, weird that I've never heard of it before. I think my other option is to go back to using the 3TB Seagate drive for samples and audio (although this does cause performance problems) and wait for the Samsung EVO 500gb to come down in price...

Re: Any 7770 or 7790 that can turn fan off at idle?
Thanks MKK. I think the only thing I've read is a couple of people on here with Gigabyte 7870 OCs who were able to run without a fan at idle, but it seems to be just that one card (which is really more power than I want). Shame that passive cards seem to have fallen from favour, just the 7750 and 78...

Any 7770 or 7790 that can turn fan off at idle?
Hi, I know some people have had success with certain makes of 7850 or 7870 in being able to run with the fan turned off at idle, but does anyone know of a 7770 or 7790 which can do the same?

Quieter 1TB drive than WD Blue?
Hi - I have a Samsung 840 250gb SSD drive and a Seagate Barracuda 3TB (ST3000DM001) in my DAW system. I need three separate drives (for audio, samples and operating system) so for the third I just bought a WD Blue 1tb, having read on various sites that it was a quiet drive. Well, it isn't! I have it...

Re: Quietest CPU [cooler] for overclocked 2600K
Thanks - I looked at the Scythe Mugen 3 but some people seem to have had issues with it (concave base being one problem mentioned) so I'm hesitant about it. Am I right in thinking that a cooler with two fans can be run at a lower speed than with one?

Quietest CPU [cooler] for overclocked 2600K
Last year I bought an overclocked bundle from Scan, with a P8P67 motherboard and an Intel 2600K overclocked to 4.5Ghz. It came with an Arctic Freezer 13, the noise of which is starting to bug me (along with other parts of my system which I'm planning to replace). Therefore I'm looking for the absolu...

Re: Antec P150 - replace or upgrade?
Thanks all for the responses, really helpful suggestions. I do unfortunately need the gt240 for video editing work. I think the options are: - keep the antec case, but replace the fan and cpu cooler with something quieter, but still with fans. This will be nearer silence but will still have noise fr...

Antec P150 - replace or upgrade?
I currently have an Intel 2600k cooled by an Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 on an Asus P8P67 board, with several DSP audio cards, a passively cooled Nvidia GT240 and three suspended hard drives, in an Antec P150 case with a Seasonic 430 watt PSU (and one 12” case fan, I think by Zalman). The system is pr...
