Re: Unusual setup – case and placement recommendations
If you have always on hdd , they will most likeky to be the dominate noise. I dont really think energy consumption should be a real concern even if you are located energy expensive euro. Typically diy or off the shelf nas idle at 20-30w, which is like 2-3 led/ccfl bulb. And you can use network slee...

Re: Indigo XS vs. Prolimatech PK-3 from a silence perspectiv
Added Enerdyne response to my post #2: I got reply (actually quite promptly in less than 24 hours - just haven't had time to update here) about my reflow procedure experiences. Here's part of their reply: Yes, it is quite possible to partially/fully reflow IX/XS while in BIOS (higher power dissipati...

Re: Experience Going CPU fanless with top and rear exhaust f
my reasoning is that if the cooler cannot move any more heat then additional fans won't make any difference. If I didn't misunderstood, whether that were true, than it would be due to the fact you were mosty recirculating hot air inside your case. I also suspect, that something like this is happeni...

Re: Fan controller
You are talking about "alternatives to relying on the motherboard for fan control". I think herein lies a part of the confusion: the BIOS firmware (and/or accompanying fan controller firmware on the MB) is separate thing to the hardware (controlling the fan headers) . All of the limitations describe...

Re: Fan controller
If you want your fan speeds to be controled according to CPU temperature, and if your MB had anough fan headers, then I don't see any point in using an additional fan controller? I may be missing something, since I haven't investigated these external fan controllers that are available on the market ...

Re: Slim 140mm fans - any experiences?
Just in case anyone is interested, I tried the Cryorig fan in the configuration above. My two findings / conclusions were: The fan does not sound bad in this configuration, i.e. no resonance / turbulance sounds are caused by the proximity of the case panel ("roof"). Cooling performance degraded noti...

Did you notice this thread a while back?
I can recommend the Cryorig 140mm slim fan subjectively, since that's what I ordered for testing. Not the cheapest of the bunch, however.

Re: Best CPU+MOBO power to power consumption ratio?
So your usage will be quite light, despite having 2-3 VMs ? An important question is: What is your CPU usage pattern? I take it that the picture you included was meant to answer this :) Don't look at the TDP, however. A while ago there was a thread you may be interested in: Intel Core i3-i5-i7 Haswe...

Re: Cryorig H7 alternative?
I can speak for the NH-C14 (without S), which I bought before the NH-C14S was released. It is quite efficient for it's size - but also expensive, I've read, compared others on the same size class. It is also quite versatile - if I ever change my case! You didn't specify your processor or your size c...

And this TDP thing again.. ;) The factory underclocked parts are nothing special. The T-part is not more efficient, it's the same CPU with different settings. Get the 4690T if you want, but please do so because you like the turbo frequency or something real. Not because you believe that it draws 45...

That s what happen on some of my heatsink with copper base. Oh, I misunderstood that you meant my pictures. There was nothing visible on the heatsink after remowing the TIM. Pk3 seems to leave some black substance on the heatsink? No, it is caused by my photography skillz  I was trying to get a good picture of the webby pattern caused by the TIM. It had a very consistent and even colour. I had bad lightning and my cell phone camera is not that good - and using a f...

6. Conclusions and final thoughts: Main conclusions: I think the Indigo XS is on par with the PK-3. There is a small difference in favor of Indigo XS (EDIT: I had mistakenly written here PK-3) , but that difference is mostly < 1°C. This could be explained by changes in my testing room temperature o...

2. Installation Prolimatech PK3: There isn't much to say about using PK-3. I heated PK-3 in hot water in a plastic bag (since PK-3 is quite thick and I red somewhere this should facilitate handling it). A large grain of the PK3 was put on the CPU (not spreaded!), and NH-C14 was installed. The inclu...

Indigo XS vs. Prolimatech PK-3 from a silence perspective
Hi all SPCR forum readers! I have recently upgraded my HTPC build, but it's usage has actually evolved into something that is anything else but.
