Re: Braswell motherboards

Well from the tests it seems there is almost no change in the CPU cores and thanks to lower clock in has less power consumption, but also lower performance per core compared to Bay-trail. However GPU is upgraded and can push smooth video in 4K. Only issue of the whole platform is lack of DC-in board...

ECS board added to the first post, in the specs is written only 1080p resolution, which I hope is not true, because that might be a big disadvantage to other competitors.

MSI boards updated in the first post Regarding PicoPSU: it is quite hard to buy it in my country together with proper power brick and by ordering abroad the price will become too high compared to traditional ATX PSU. I think it is time for the motherboard producers to start selling products with DC...

Re: Braswell motherboards

Guys thanks for sharing info, ASRock added to the first post. It looks good, however I hoped for more boards with DC-in, since I have no idea with which PSU to power the other models. Smallest ATX PSU have around 100 W, which is still a total overkill for such system...

ASRock boards may come very soon :) From tweaktown forum: I'm ASRock HQ Technical team. Re: Braswell motherboards

I think Braswell will be able to play 2160p at 30 Hz, which should be enough for watching movies. BayTrail isn't powerful enough for such videostream, or is it? Of course 2160p at 60 Hz would be nice, but don't forget we are talking about very cheap boards (entry-level) and Intel was always behind w...

Braswell motherboards

Since my last thread about Bay-trail boards was quite popular, lets do it again. This time it is Braswell and finally the specs looks like 21st century :) I guess the only issue will be to find appropriate PSU for the boards if the DC-in is missing, because PicoPSU with adapter is quite expensive an...

There is active cooling on stock cooler, however I think it can be cooled by passive sink only. (if not used for gaming purposes)

Re: Bay-trail motherboards

That depends on whether you're going to have to compromise too much on power consumption According to tests, AM1 seems to have even better power consumption, than Bay-Trail. Anyway both are around 10 W in idle, which is very nice stable video drivers for the AMD graphics Quality of drivers is for s...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards

ASROCK Q1900DC-ITX will be soon available in Czech Republic. Price is 2662 CZK with VAT, which is around 97 Eur.

My only concern is, whether to buy Athlon 5350 + AsRock board for almost same price.
AMD seems to offer faster storage and 4K output for video.

Re: Bay-Trail vs AM1 (and the winner is...)

As for me, I need something power efficient, which will handle my: 1) downloads/uploads (1x 320 GB drive) 2) data backup of my family (2x 3 TB) 3) Log some traffic 4) Sometimes run some video or app and that is it. Intel can do this as well, however AMD seems to do the same and offer something extra...

Bay-Trail vs AM1 (and the winner is...)

Hi guys, I've made some research over the week to find, whether Bay-Trail or AM1 will fit my needs. I'm comparing Intel Celeron J1900 vs AMD Athlon 5350. Here are some conclusions, however I'm not sure, if all of them are 100% right. I hope it might help you to decide... CPU: Both 4 cores, AMD sligh...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards

ASRock Q1900DC-ITX is official ... http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Q1900DC-ITX/

PCIe x1 can't be used for graphic card (maybe with extra PSU), otherwise this seems to be the best Bay-Trail board so far.

Because lets face it, for boards with idle around 10-15 W, there is no classic PSU. :)

Had some talks with ASRock and it looks like, that Q1900DC-ITX will be available pretty soon and even pricing looks reasonable.
As soon as they confirm I will post it here. I also asked for one piece for review.

Stay tuned 8)

And if you want mirroring and are using some kid of *nix system (Linux, BSD, illumos), then forget about RAID completely and use ZFS mirroring, which is the best thing available, without any doubts. I know, that I can't expect anything superb in terms of RAID capabilities from those low-cost boards. I hope for RAID 1 the software solution will be good enough.
