Re: Passive Mini-ITX Strix380 4790K
I'm wrapping up testing of this system. I will be upgrading to the next gen Intel proc when they are released around Oct. I wont be posting my new rig here because it will be a clone of what I have accomplished with this build. I have added a single exhaust fan due to 90% cpu loads from lots of mult...

Re: Passive Mini-ITX Strix380 4790K
Almost 1 year since initial post and I still enjoy the silence everyday! Updates Upgraded to 16GB Ram, Crucial Ballistix. Original ASUS mini pci wireless card died and was replaced with Intel 7260. Very nice card! Samsung M.2 850 Evo 128GB was upgraded to Samsung M.2 960 Evo 256GB, only running at X...

Re: Passive Mini-ITX Strix380 4790K
If you love it, well done. Just out of curiosity: what about the CPU temp when stressed (those things like OCCT, Prime95, LinX)? Can the Zalman cope with that? I think no, but I'd like to know the real figures, if any. I run 1 round of Unigine Heaven as a "can it handle it" bench and CPU temps top ...

Passive Mini-ITX Strix380 4790K
It has taken me over 1 year to fully develop this system. General Characteristics: This system is silent while doing day to day office tasks, i.e. word processing, music, pdf's, web surfing(all at the same time). It can can handle anything you throw at it and none of the fans will turn on. What will...

I think its great but it seems like i'm the only one. Can you pop the top and post a few pics here? You gotta be registered at LTT to see those pics. Very interesting case tho, what the heck is going on inside it!

I love it! I'd play around a bit and remove the 3 side fans and see how just the top exhaust fan does or drill a few holes in the side plexi then remove the 3 side fans. Hey, either way you are off to a great start!

Suspend the drive, if its not enough, enclose it, if its not enough, sell it and get a WD Red or Green, if its not enough.... save for a bigger ssd. Abula I totally agree with you :D :D :D. Ive been using a long lost 1T with my method described above and it was pretty quiet to begin with compared t...

Hot swap tray, 5.25 inch, fits in a cd bay if you have a blank. Leave the drive unplugged when not needed. Your sys board must support hot swap for this to work, check your BIOS.

I run the HAF XB EVO. I didnt know much about it when I bought it but once I started the build I was super impressed at how well thought out it was. Now i can remove the mobo in about 45 seconds and i dont even need a screwdriver, its brilliant!

Re: CR-95C and Zalman Fanelsss?
I run the CR-95C on a 4790K clocked at a constant 4.4GHZ and I have 0 case fans. If you are going to run the CR-95C you MUST pick a case that excels at top venting. If you DON'T run Prime95 all day then the CR-95C will be the best money you ever spent, follow you from build to build because you cant...

Re: Linus does Silent PC ... with a little help from his fri
So Mike, (and other SPCR's) what would you change/tweak in linus' build to bring the SPL down below 20? or did linus basically achieve the quietest this beast can attain? The question is what is making it going into 27dba, GPU Fans? Case Fans? CPU FAN? 1 Rear case fan, cpu cooler is fanless (dark r...

Re: Linus does Silent PC ... with a little help from his fri
Cool, You forgot to mention you were in the vid! Nice to see ya and your setup, very nice. I think that guy did a great job of putting together a quiet build. For most people that would be a significant difference from their old noisy build. A few improvements and he is silent but for the most part ...

Re: Passive System Advice
Cool thread and a passive DAW is an interesting idea with unique challenges. Your component list is a great start and needs just a bit of tweaking. Also i have some notes. -Ram, be sure the ram is standard height or it wont clear the NoFan. -Case, you need to go out of your way to find a case whose ...

Guys, lets not get too far off-topic. I have spent alot on quiet parts in the last few years without any help from SPCR in my quest for silence. I only posted to document where i ended up to save others money. I was very close to silence in my OP and finally had the "sword in the stone" breakthru wh...

There's just no way to have any decently powerful system w/o a case fan going Oh really? I beg to differ http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=589576#p589576 I guess it all depends on how you define the word "have". i can "have" a fanless powerful system tomorrow, but will it still w...

Re: Really having a hard time finding a quiet PSU. Please he
I run the Corsair AX650 with my 4790k and 280x. The PSU itself is a few years old but dead silent at idle and light duty. The fan will turn on under gaming loads but its not noticeable. I wanted to go platinum and digital so i got the AX760i and ended up putting the AX650 back in because the AX760i ...

750ti has max TDP of 60 watts and R9 280x has max TDP of 250 watts. 280x kills the 750ti in every way shape and form so nothing groundbreaking here.

Re: Semi-passive rig
don't you create a weird air pressure between the GPU (blowing down) and the chassis fans (blowing up)? Depends on the distance between the two sets of fans. I would hope that the top fans exhaust enough hot air to have new fresh air drawn in through the sides so the GPU isnt bathing itself constan...

Re: Semi-passive rig
I can try to put an intake fan to the top and have some fresh air over the GPU and PSU. The problem might be that hot air would flow down to the CPU. Try this, take the bottom and side fans and position them on the top vent to exhaust the rising warm air. I too ran into these problems with my old c...

A perfect blend of power, quiet, and compact. In the future if you decide to go passive and silent all you have to give up the compact. Can you give a description of the distance away from the box to noise profile of your build?
