Does volume count, for the airflow?
I made my final choice (and I can't wait to order all the parts... As soon as my Temjin is sold :) ) Coming from a Temjin TJ08-E. ("big" empty box) First I was thinking of staying with Silverstone, with SG06. (but it requires SFX PSU and I am afraid it's too small for SSD + HDD and good airflow) The...

Nice build.
But it looks so empty without HDDs, GPU, etc.
Why did you go with this size?
for future upgrade?

Re: Thermalright Macho 120 - new or old version ?
I have never installed an aftermarket heatsink in my life. Planning soon. As completely new to this world, I would take the back plate. Especially here we are talking about the same cooler, with or without. It would certainly be different if the old one was discontinued, and if I would need to choos...

Re: New passive (!) home server based on an E3-1240v3
Hi Bean, I'm very interested to see this passive build, to get ideas. You will use the original fans from the case? (Is it one front and one top?) Please put us some pictures of the settings inside your box. Why did you choose this case? With mATX, you could do a smaller one, still with HDD capacity.

Did you manage to take some pictures of the internals of your build?
I would be interested to see.

I saw also some other htpc in the forum that are running at 10-15W idle, but I thought they were with different component. When I say "idle", it's when I am running no programs, just the computer is on, plugged to the 2 displays with HDMI and DVI. I am running on SSD. The 2 HDD are usually on standb...

Re: Home theater PC without a keyboard
The cable is just the standard “splitter” that comes with these Noctua fans. You only have to add the yellow wire in the empty connector . Ha ha, very clever!! I was looking everywhere and could not find these splitter with 2 wires for the sensor rpm of each fan. Of course, it's only existing after...

Thanks so much for showing me your cable solution for the case fan. It looks perfect, with the feedback info of rpm. I think I have the same issue on my current Gigabyte mobo (GA-B75M) and my front 180mm on the TJ08-E. There is a switch on the side of the case (HIGH / LOW). But if I put LOW, it sto...

I was pretty decided with the PC-Q07, with tower cooler HR-02 and a picoPSU (to have space for the cooler). Looking at all the Q series, I found also the Q27 which seems to be more recent. It's not much bigger, but it seems to fit better my project of "tower cooler + 1 exhaust fan + picoPSU" http://...

Re: Home theater PC without a keyboard
Thanks for the info. I will be running a small i3-4330 without any heavy work. It should be cooler than your i5. You are running at 200rpm for both fan, all the time? Other question (sorry, just curious): Why not a tower cooler, since you went for picoPSU? (you have the room) Maybe with just the tow...

In nearly 11 years, umpteen images without which forum discussions become nonsensical have been lost due to such third-party hosters disappearing, users accounts being deleted, etc. A lot of it is trivial, but some important -- now historical, I suppose -- threads have suffered. Re: Home theater PC without a keyboard
Hi Rebel, The mini ITX box, is it a PC-Q03? Why did you choose this one, over other Lian Li and other brands? What is the CPU cooler that you are using? What's the CPU? Running cool all the time? If using picoPSU, why not having a tall tower, HR-02 or Mugen 4? I'm planning a mini ITX with the Q07 so...

I took a Gold for my build. I'm convinced.
But Loimlo was talking about 300W budget and quiet PSU.
I am not sure you get low budget PSU, when looking into the Gold class.

Since in ITX cases, every inch counts =P, it'd be great to get size comparisons to other popular ITX cases. It's just nice to have that visual when debating between comparable ones. Re: Advice for workstation/photo-editing build
I would go mATX, because you don't need 5 HDDs and big GPU. You'll have a smaller case, and it should be easier for the airflow. (and less noise) Your current X220 is running Core i5 - 2520M, HD3000 on a slow 5400rpm drive. What are you using for photo editing? Is this a lot of heavy RAW and tools? ...

Re: A new PSU in the 300-400W range?
I don't know all PSU, and I don't know how quiet is your SS-300SFD 300W from Seasonic. I would think that there is not much market, at this price range, to have a lot of manufacturer. Not much different of profit between the 300 and 400W models. I also tend to the same conclusion as Steve: Antec Eco...

Sure you consume more with your card. Normal. I was just pointing out, that these online calculators are giving a (very) good marge for error. After your remark below. (I have seen online calculators mentioned that are supposed to do that). Here, on the Thermaltake calculator: It recommends me a 158...

Re: A new PSU in the 300-400W range?
You would be surprised to see how small you consume, in reality, compared to these online calculators. After 12 months, I bought a powermeter to plug on the wall and see how much my PC is taking. 44W at idle, 64W at full load, 85W on peaks when starting. The online calculators were recommending abou...

Re: Any better ITX than SG06? Maybe PC-Q07 or Node 304...
I am not sure it's the ideal case. From what I read around here, the fanless PSU are better at the top of the case, with top opening for the heat to go out. In the Node 304, the heat will just add into the case, which means the back fan might run faster. Seasonic has some good series with fan that o...

Re: Elastic suspension: Still getting loud seek noise?
hi, I'm no expert, but maybe few ideas to help. 7200rpm HDDs seem to be louder than 5400rpm Green series. You could put this one into an noise reduction enclosure. But it will cost extra. I guess, you took SSHD because it was cheaper SSD + HDD? I prefer to have the SSD separate. For the current heal...

It's kind of modding the PC-Q07 into a FT03 Mini. but here with a good size heatsink.

Ok, so no need to pay too much attention to what they say / sell us. But the ability to run at low rpm seems important, for lowering the noise.
