Re: Seeking quieter 120x120x25mm fan for cpu cooler

So now from me sorry for confusion, because I just assumed it as obvious: keeping problematic cooler doesn't make sense, because for the price of this cooler and two decent replacement fans you would get just better and higher quality cooler with no need of such tweaks. Great to hear that you solve...

Re: Seeking quieter 120x120x25mm fan for cpu cooler

Sorry for the confusion. My plan is to keep the cooler and replace the fans, not buy another cooler to get the fans. Since my OP I've actually had some luck just moving the fan a little so it's not so inline with the other fan. This seems to reduce the noise. My issues was less about loudness and m...

Re: Seeking quieter 120x120x25mm fan for cpu cooler

Isn't still possible to return this cooler? Buying the cooler to replace it's fans is just bad. Especially given that "bang for buck" fans are not best in terms of acoustics and durability. If I were you, I would return this cooler or buy just one Noctua NF-A12x25 to run it between towers. They are...

Seeking quieter 120x120x25mm fan for cpu cooler

Hi, I just build a new PC designed for gaming as well as general application. CPU: AMD Ryzen7 7800 GPU: RTX 4070 Ti I expect fan noise to get louder during gaming and I'm certainly not looking for a perfectly silent PC, but I'm getting too much noise from my CPU cooler starting at just over 700rpms....

My new build - short review

I finally got my build together. It took quite a while as I was waiting for the bitcoin pricing madness to subside. I also ended up returning my corsair rm 750 to newegg because newegg is still selling the recalled models even though replacements have been out since Nov of 2013. Despite this, Newegg...

Re: Corsair RM 750 .. how to stress for testing?

Hell with it, I just bought the seasonic SSR-750RM for $80, $40 less than I paid for the Corsair RM 750. I'm sure it will be louder but I'm running out time and patience and need to get something ordered so I'm not without a PC for too long. I think I've already told you which PSUs may offer more c...

Re: Corsair RM 750 .. how to stress for testing?

Thanks all. Testing is on hold as I'm probably going to return this PSU rather than go through the recall hassle with Corsair, but I will remember your comments for when the time comes. I thought NewEgg would have the new models out being the recall was 5 month ago, but my lot number was 1338 and th...

Re: Corsair RM 750 .. how to stress for testing?

Luca, I'll reply to other comments a little later, but regarding my recalled Corsair RM 750, would a Seasonic G-750 SSR-750RM be a good replacement for the Corsair rm 750? NewEgg is having a sale on this model today. I know you said you didn't prefer the seasonics but is this particular model better...

Corsair RM 750 .. how to stress for testing?

Hi, with the help of some folks here form the group I managed to get together a decent build. I ended up purchasing a Corsair RM 750 which is overpowered for my build. I'm in the middle of sorting out a recall issue with NewEgg so my case hardware is sort of in limbo. I'd like to force the PSU fan t...

Re: PSU follow up for my new build...

Someone tell Luca I bought the Corsair 750 RM. I'm afraid he's going to yell at me. Don't worry: rather, I'm just curious to learn if that PSU will ever whine, stressed by a 250W card. Let we have your report about. lol. I'd be the one whining then. Actually, I will check the serial number f...

Re: PSU follow up for my new build...

Luca, I want to buy the Kingwin, but I'm afraid! lol. PCpartpicker puts my system a 508w. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3daHP I gave you the data belonging to the Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X OC, so an hotter model than your. This seems like a very logical assumption, but let's look at power consumption which...

Re: PSU follow up for my new build...

I wasn't sure if I needed more than 650 to achieve the reduction in noise. As you noted just below, it depends of the specific PSU. Just as examples : in order to achieve the most favourable noise profile from the PSU alone, giving the expected power draw at load and depending of the ambient temper...

Re: Fractal case noob questions

Read through the build thread in my signature for analysis of the R4 and Truequiet fans and settings. Remove the middle cage if you don't need it. I wouldn't mount the SSD behind the motherboard as it will run hotter back there. Good, your answers were what I expected. I checked your build again. I...

Re: PSU follow up for my new build...

The S12 isn't compatible with Haswell's requirement to provide a minimum current load of 0.05 Amps on the 12V rail for the CPU. Another thread on this. I don't pretend to understand the reasoning for that requirement but it's just one more thing that makes me think it's better to just forget about ...

Re: PSU follow up for my new build...

Assuming the 750 watt "requirement" is bogus, I'll aim for 550W and up. As I said elsewhere (among several other forumers), with reference to your setup the only reason to pick anything higher than 400/450W is a more favourable noise profile. I understood what you meant about the 750 being more qui...

Re: PSU follow up for my new build...

Your new graphics card draw about 250W DC at gaming, some slight more at stress testing: so anything starting from 400W may be enough for your build (so, as your S12 can supply about 400W through the 12V rail, it would be fine: I just guess it would be noisy ). Luca, The S12 would only be temporary...

PSU follow up for my new build...

I've been going through old posts were I got some good advice on PSUs but I'm realizing I'm a little confused on the wattage. My first concern is that the specs on my vid card say a 750W PSU is REQUIRED. Research here and elsewhere suggests 550 may be enough for a stock R9 290, but I'm not sure if 5...

Re: Fractal case noob questions

I personally would leave the stock fans connected to the fan controller for manual control. Meanwhile the fan you added would be connected to the Motherboard to be controlled by software That sounds good. The mobo has three fan inputs plus a CPU fan input. I'll use one input for the non-stock front...

Fractal case noob questions

I have the Fractal Design R4, no windows. It comes with a removable section that holds 5 bays for storage drives. I don't need it, so I assume there's no benefit of leaving it in there as it will only block air flow, correct? I have added an extra 140mm fan to the front case of my Fractal Design R4....

I only worry it might be overkill considering I have a locked CPU, but I guess it's better to overspend that underspend.

How ya like the Mugen 4?

Re: New Gaming Build Advice

Regarding your last post, I've been told the stock fan is particularly loud even by non-spcr standards so I'll probably need to pick something up. More probably that not the ones who told you the stock heatsink fan is loud are not even able to control that fan: said that, the stock fan is usually c...

Re: New Gaming Build Advice

Luca: noted. Always look at the test setups for reviews. In Anandtech's case, it's an overclocked Intel Core i7-4960X @ 4.2GHz (stock clock is 3.6GHz). The TDP is 130W, then add more for overclock and overvolt...maybe another 40-50W for a total of ~180W. Your CPU is 84W TDP. :) PSU noise: I wouldn'...

Re: New Gaming Build Advice

Your stressed load power is ~400W, a big gaming load will be in the 300-350W range. A 550W PSU will certainly work, but the fan will have ramped up. Whether or not it's louder than your R9 290 is <shrug>. If you go with a higher wattage of the same model (assuming the same OEM/mfgr), it will be qui...

Re: New Gaming Build Advice

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Chicony vs CWT? These are PSU OEM manufactures, most retail PSU you see are not made by the company it sells them, but by OEM manufacturer (sometimes design by them sometimes by the seller). There are a lot of OEM PSU manufcatuers, for example Seasonic, Supe...
