IPS monitor, radiation, and sharp object question
Hiya fellow Silent PC enthusiast..., I have a Dell 23 inches IPS monitor. Just now I accidentally scratched the monitor with a steak knife. It has a little scratch as per the picture below. I'm Asian, and not particularly savvy with computers, but my parents (when I was a kid) were particularly wary...

Re: my 1st pc build (mid-range), went from 0 knowledge
hello... so... i just bought a new case for my PC. NZXT h440. yeay! finally its available locally!! according to the h440 user manual, i "have" to mount the PSU facing down. and as some of you may know, nzxt h440 has this little intricate PSU cover for covering the backside of the PSU. however... fr...

Re: Close to silent pc!
Thank you so much for sharing Troveo! :D Actually I had been following your thread...how do you like your 1st pc build so far? I haven't bought anything yet...still undecided about what kind of system I am going to build. Atm I am still doing a lot of research, reading about other users' experience...

Re: WD Green vs. WD Red for quietness?
"Endless retries" = can't access data, drive repeating a clear pattern of noises as the heads try and try again. "Consistent waking" = the drive "wakes up" from low power states into operation the same way every time. Worn out or damaged drives may fail to start "cold" (from long power-off), or sta...

Re: WD Green vs. WD Red for quietness?
SMART data and drive performance are pretty much the only indicators for your average consumer. If both are okay (no SMART warnings, no endless retrying, consistent waking, no sudden freezes etc.), then the drive is more than likely okay. Diagnostics can be used to detect performance degradation an...

Re: WD Green vs. WD Red for quietness?
Well, as you've concluded yourself, the thing to do would be to listen and compare. Maybe find someone who also has the new WD Reds. I have no personal experience with the new batch, so I can't really say if it should be "alarmingly loud" or not, but the word out there seems to be that the noise is...

You accidentally shorted something. It happens. Worst case for me was when I attempted to "hot-swap" some old PATA HDDs back in the day. Fiddling with the power connector I let +12v meet ground in a spectacular fashion. Big spark and the system shut down. But no permanent damage as far as I could t...

Re: my 1st pc build (mid-range), went from 0 knowledge
Don't worry about the internal USB3-connector. It's a common problem that the fitting doesn't seem optimal, but it usually works just fine. Crappy construction from the start if you ask me. Should have a clip, like the modern SATA cables. A clip would hold the cable in place, and also give a satisf...

Metal Oxide Varistor. Used for surge protection/lightning strikes :) If you have a surge protector then you don't need this in your PSU....and I'd hope you have a surge protector...let alone a UPS. At any rate, if you don't mind shelling for the U12S, why don't you do the same for an U14S or a C14? Otherwise, why don't you stick the with the Hyper 212? because 212 differences is $30 to $50 (north america e-tailer market price against local price). while noctua 12s is $71 to $77. Similar with ...

Yes they are, but if the HDD will be your primary drive, then the 2Tb Red could not be the best option: to be fair, it's noticeably quieter than the faster spinning SV, but its 1Tb and 4Tb brother prove to be not as good as a boot drive (the 3Tb seems better: check the relevant SPCR reviews). the b...
