Re: Time for a new rig

The rig is completed, and I am still fighting some issues: CPU, i went for a Ryzen 9 3900x. I observer that the CPU is quickly spiking even in near idle mode, which causes the FANs to go crazy for a couple of seconds. Up - down - up - down, very annoying. - First of all, the software that came with ...

Re: Time for a new rig

It's not like back then. In the old days there were 4cm high speed fans that were running constantly to keep the temperature at bay during regular use. Now the fan is bigger and semi passive, only used sparingly if/when the chip is working hard and gets warm. On my MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus the fan ...

Re: Time for a new rig

If you are willing to drop PCIe 4.0, then go with B450 like MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX , great value mobo with decent VRM heatsinks and because its a B450 it has a passive chipset, I have done 3 builds on it one of them a 3900x and all working flawless, if you wish to see more check HardwareUnboxed Ryze...

Re: Time for a new rig

Wow, what apps are needing 64GB of RAM? Nothing really, but I use my computer also heavily for work and tend to have A LOT windows open. Right now, without any games and without working I still use 70% of my available 32GB RAM right now. I simply thought: I want an upgrade, so 64 it is :D Hmm B450,...

Re: Time for a new rig

Finally got some time to think about it a bit more (thanks to Covid-19 lol) For GPU I have so far settled for MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X Trio. Reason is that this appears to be a good sweet spot for power to noise. I found a couple of reviews that praise the card as very silent. Some measure it wit...

Re: Time for a new rig

Not sure if I understand the issue correctly that you are talking about, can you explain a bit please?
I am running dual screen at all times. Most if the time its just standard work or surfing. I dont play intensive FPS games these days anymore. The 2 screens are from the same type and brand (Dells).

Re: Time for a new rig

Thanks for the comments so far. I must confess that my last AMD build was probably over 15 years ago. At that time to find a compatible combination of board, CPU, RAM and GFX was an art on its own. Are you aware of specific reviews around getting CPU and GPU silent for those new AMD parts? Power con...

Time for a new rig

Its been a couple of years since I last updated my PC. Thanks to this forum it served me well ;) Now its time for an update. Parameters did not change much. I still hate anything that makes noise in my PC. Still working, still playing games. Dont care much about costs, as I am not updating my comput...

Re: making up my mind

i have now replaced the Fractal fans with Noctua and am now using a splitter to attach it to CPU2 fan port as advised . Noise levels is now a lot better, specially that strange clicking sounds is now gone. Fans are now at around 300 rpm, which is fine. I experimented a bit with the noctua resistors,...

Re: making up my mind

So i set the fans to 50% for temp below 60°C. But the fans are still a lot too fast (around 750 rpm). Also i noticed that they sometimes spin up for max speed for a 2 sec.

I will now replace them with notcua ones and use the splitter, lets see how that works.

Re: making up my mind

How did you connected those fans? Can you monitor their speed? The case has 3pin fans installed. I connected them directly with the mainboard (4pin) As said - I think by Abula -, whether those headers are true PWM ones (I checked the manual but it doesn't look so, therefore I recommed to check by y...

Re: making up my mind

I am happy to report that the new pc has been assembled. Fractal R2 XL Super Flower 550W MSI Gamer 7 MSI GTX 760 Core i5 4670 Noctua U14S i changed to MSI mainboard against my initial intention to go for an Asus board, because i read some negative comments about the fan control on Asus boards and be...

Re: making up my mind

I looked at the Googlish version of the caseking.de homepage and didn't see anything about Superflower other than a link to their Leadex product page. website i ment was superflower http://www.super-flower.de/ Just a note: I checked for myself, and I realized that the GTX 750Ti unfortunately does n...

Re: making up my mind

x97 mobo: Don't be an early adopter without understanding the risks. Every Intel chipset has had bugs at release. Some were fixed with BIOS updates/ some took a chip revision. Besides that, all mobo's spin out a lot of UEFI revisions in the first 2-3 months. Wait until ~August. good point. thank yo...

Re: making up my mind

Finally i got some time to start working on the shopping list. Please share your advise. First of all, i decided to go for air instead of water based cooling. Reason for it is, that you can always switch to water if air doesnt work if you make the right case choice and that it is more convenient to ...

Re: making up my mind

Thanks for the advice regarding SLI, good point really. I did some reading on the FC8 Evo case, and i think its kinda small. I found some similar cases that are bigger and still use heatpipes, but im not convinced that they are actually capable of what they claim to be. Well at least i didnt find de...

Re: making up my mind

So the GTX750Ti is a viable option: about that, I don't agree with Abula, and he knows. I would pick the cheapest one (here it's the Palit Storm X) and slap an Accelero S1 Plus on it: money-wise in Italy such a combo is a more convenient option than buying an MSI Gaming equivalent card, and it will...

Re: making up my mind

Thank Abdula for sharing your advice! Its one of the things i learned here when i read posts about fans. While it is absolutely logic, that more fans allow you to run each one of them slower, i was always thinking: if its turning, it makes noise, its bad. I did do my best to get my water cooled syst...

making up my mind

Hi, over the last couple of weeks i read a lot of articles here on the board, as i plan to make some changes to my PC. Lots of interesting articles and reviews! That being said, i need some help in making up my mind... Stick with water cooling or switch to fan based system? Currently i run Core i5 2...
