Re: What to upgrade?

Like everyone I suppose, I get frustrated with the choice between the 4070 and the 4070 ti cards. Going by your advice and looking at actual game play rather than benchmarks I found a few videos on the 4070 ti card. This guy on YouTube plays the game with a 4070 ti card. It seems totally fine. I not...

Re: What to upgrade?

Well, this is embarrassing. It turns out that my current process is i5-8600K CPU @ 3.60GHz, not the i5-8400 that I listed initially  I am terribly sorry. There are some differences between the two: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-8400/3941vs3939 I dis...

Re: What to upgrade?

If so, I would wait for DIV being realeased. Final version should work somehow better than it works now - maybe even well enough to satisfy you without doing any upgrade. Upgrade now makes sense only if you don't like current performance and just don't want to wait. This might be good advice. Howev...

Re: What to upgrade?

So now the question is, do you want to upgrade this rig to play Diablo better or you plan to play also other modern games? As you can see, it's not much needed to give you 120fps in your resolution (30% stronger GPU + maybe 2x8 GB of RAM), but new games will kill your CPU and 8GB card like 1080 or ...

Re: What to upgrade?

Nice find with that video with my build. Question: Do you think the numbers in these videos look different if there were 4 players on the screen rather than one, and they all were doing 5 or 10 times as many things? Because that is what the game will look at once we get to the end game - where we sp...

Re: What to upgrade?

Thank you for the link to the CPU test. Very informative. It's easy to see that the CPU has a significant impact on the games they tested. It is also quite clear that my CPU is waaaay behind  I found a video on YouTube showing resources used playing Diablo 4. https://youtu.be/_XNpsG6Y8So Key ...

Re: What to upgrade?

Thank you for replying to my post Japanese Capacitor! I apologize for not getting back here sooner. Your answers are very helpful. About the CPU being a bottleneck . I gather from your reply that to what extent my CPU will be a bottleneck, really depends on the games I play. Since I know I will be p...

Re: What to upgrade?

After my initial post, I did some more research on the graphics cards. Now I am thinking that both the RTX 4070 and the RTX 4070 ti would work. Ignoring the price difference for a bit, they both seem to be equally noisy/quiet. The RTX 4070 ti even seems to run a tad bit cooler as well. At least it d...

What to upgrade?

Hi everyone, Back in 2018, I built two identical rigs based on the great advice I received from this community. I have been very pleased with these rigs, which have held up well for my needs of browsing and playing Diablo 3 LoD. However, with the release of Diablo 4, I am considering upgrading my ri...

Re: Considering a new build. Suggestions are most welcome.

Excellent advice guys! Things seem to be working better now. To me its just that the fan is running in the extreme quiet zone, FanXpert is pretty good into predicting fan behavior but there are multiple samples and in some cases it might evaluate the fan way to close to the stop, i would just bump t...

Re: Considering a new build. Suggestions are most welcome.

Thank you all for your answers. Sorry for the late reply. Been busy all week with work. This is an Asus motherboard. The fan is not hooked into CPU-OPT. It's hooked up to chassis fan 2. I checked the BIOS and all the fans are set to minim 200 rpm. All the settings are Auto, so I have not chosen PWM ...

Re: Considering a new build. Suggestions are most welcome.

I wonder if something is wrong with some of our fans. We started looking at this like you suggested Abula. Messing around with this, my wives back fan stopped working. We changed it out for one of mine and that spun just fine. That made me think something was wrong with her fan. I tried her fan in m...

Re: Considering a new build. Suggestions are most welcome.

I have a problem I hope you can help me troubleshoot. As you know I built two identical PCs. One for my wife and one for myself. My wife's PC behaves very well. I hardly ever hear it spin up its fans. Mine, on the other hand, spins up the whole time. We both started playing Divinity Original sin 2 t...

Re: Considering a new build. Suggestions are most welcome.

Seems there are two versions of the fan.

http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/products/fa ... 0-pwm.html

Quiet version 300rpm - 800rpm
Regular version 300rpm - 1200rpm

Just get the regular version to match the CPU fan?

It is not. The case fan that came with the Fractal Design C. The CPU cooler is the one that came on the Scyth Mugen. What is the significance of the fans not being the same? If this is a problem, it seems I can either buy a Case Fan Y Cable OR I can just get another fan like the one on the Scyth Mug...

So I've finally started the build! Been kind of busy here so have not had much time. Turns out that the Thermalright fans did not come with screws. I had to order some that I am waiting for. (Just a heads up to others who might order the same fans). A small update on the CPU. I could never get the i...

Re: Considering a new build. Suggestions are most welcome.

Well this was something that should have been considered before buying the motherboard, there are options from all manufacturers with WIFI. Also its best to always have the PC conected via RJ45 to a wired network, faster, safer etc. I didn't buy the motherboard yet, so I could change the build on t...

I meant to ask something else as well. What do you guys do for Wifi? The motherboard doesn't have wifi. I'll probably run some cables, but I thought it would be nice to have the wifi option as well.

Quick question about the CPU cooler. There seem to be several versions of the Mugen 5. Does it matter which one I get?

Started buying the parts now. Turns out my wife wants this build y'all recommended instead of a laptop, so I have to get two sets.

Re: Considering a new build. Suggestions are most welcome.

CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 will work. Somewhat overkill for your games. An alternative is the Intel i5 8400. Costs less, tends to do better than the 1700 in gaming tests. I am starting to get the feeling that the Intel CPU i8400 might be better for me. That CPU really stands out as good value for the money....
