An SSD has less likelihood of failure than a mechanical drive

I don't know what is safer to store data between ssd and hard disk. I have backup of course. I will need two drives, one for intensive writes/rewrites (torrents and downloads, a lot of them), another one for data I don't want to loose (mostly word documents, pictures ).

Hi ! I just bought a 12tb seagate drive st12000dm0007 and it's indeed terribly noisy compared to the current drives I'm using (I don't even hear them). I'm yet to find a 6 tb+ reliable silent drive, and have absolutely no idea what to choose. Many say smr drives should be avoided.
