Isn't this a feature of the processor instead of the mobo chipset? You just need an Athlon X2 or C2D 6xxx. Not too sure about mobile processors though. Yes, but it has to be enabled in the BIOS (much like Cool & Quiet needs to be enabled in the BIOS) i've enabled hardware virtualization in VirtualP...

Microsoft documents disk idle mechanism and testing tools
This is an interesting link: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/pnppwr/powermgmt/Disk_Idle_Detection.mspx It documents the disk idle mechanisms in Windows, how to configure it (including a number of configurations that can't be done via the UI), and a new (available for Windows Server 2008 and Vis...

I have a nesteq 450W power supply on my E6600 machine, with 2GB RAM, a Raptor drive, and NVidia fanless 6600 card in a P180 case with only 1 800RPM case fan. Most of the time it's quiet, and the fan spins (not very silently compared to silent power supply's) once in a while (haven't measured it, but...

The screenshot is correct (my previous statement about 7V is incorrect, I didn't actually check what I said). The main fan will go down to 8V and will stay there. The two OTES fans will go down to 6V and will completely switch off below 6V. (I didn't check that with a voltmeter, that's just the beha...

I have an Abit AN8 Ultra, which is very similar to the SLI version you're considering. It allows 3 fans to be controlled via the BIOS. They can all be controlled from 7 to 12 volt. The CPU fan header will never go below 7V, but the other 2 headers will stop the fans if the related temperature drops ...

I've built exactly that kind of HTPC. I bought an A64 3800 (S939), in combination with an NVidia 6600 video card. The trick is to enable WMVHD hardware acceleration on your video card(search the net for instructions), this will help you more than buying a faster CPU. An NVIDIA 6600 or a Radeon X700 ...

I've had similar problems with an Asus K8V motherboard. The problem first manifested itself by dropped network connections when copying a large amount of data over the network, followed by not finding the hard disk after rebooting. Even rebooting didn't always make the network connection work again....

If you want a quiet pc, the combination A64/Zalman CNPS7000/Asus K8V/Cool'nQuiet/12 cm fan power supply is difficult to beat. I have a friend who bought such a config a few weeks ago. The QFan feature of the Asus motherboard stops his CPU fan completely most of the time, leaving you only with the no...

If you want a new power supply, why don't you buy one in Germany? I've bought silent power supplies from frozen-silicon.de, blacknoise.de and noisecontrol.de and have never had any problem. Shipping costs are rather lower, sometimes even lower than mail order from Belgian companies. I've bought 3 Q-...

They have 300, 350 and 400 Watt versions. I bought the 350W version, which only costs 115 euro, and the 300W costs even less. This is similar to other modded power supplies (it's actually cheaper than noisecontrol), so I don't consider it that expensive. All the cheap power supplies that I've bought...

Any experience with new 74GB Raptor drive?
Storagereview claims that it doesn't have the high pitched whine of the 36 GB models. I absolutely like the performance of my 36GB Raptors, but the high pitched whine spoils it all. Is there anybody with personal experience with the new 74GB drive that can confirm that the whine is gone?

I just installed this powersupply and it is the quietest power supply I've ever bought. It's even quieter than my noisecontrol enermax PS with 1500 rpm Papst fan. Basically, this is a fortron (FSP350P) power supply with a different 12 cm fan. I also have the same unmodded 12cm fortron power supply (...

I also have 2 Raptor drives. I haven't even bothered to format them when I heard how much noise they make. Zalman CNPS7000ALCu works well on Opteron
Just to let you know that the Zalman CNPS7000(Al)Cu works well on a socket 940 Opteron system. Zalman doesn't officially support the CNPS7000 on Opterons, only on Athlon 64's. The mounting mechanism for Opteron and Athlon64 is physically the same, so I took the risk and replaced the stock Opteron co...
