Just one more data point, I paid a bunch of money for an expensive 80mm Pabst fan a while ago and it is very clicky as well. Huge waste of $20. I now know that you don't need to spend that much to find a quiet fan

but if you are THAT concerned about the noise wouldn't you just go for a ninja? do you think the relative performance of the heatsinks will change very much going from 12V to 7V? I think it's pretty easy to see that the Ninja is going to be better at both voltages......and it's pretty easy to see wh...

Does the mounting mechanism allow you to choose direction of the fan? If not would it be blowing towards the back of an ATX case on a S939 motherboard or up towards the PSU? On most K8/AM2 mobos, the Mine blows toward the exhaust fan, not the PSU. Thanks for the info, and the person who answered ab...

My desktop is three feet from my head with a spinpoint and a barracuda (the single platter you reviewed) isolated with rubber webbing (as you suggest) and it is about 1/2 the sound level (and a much better quality sound) than the music computer 9 feet away with the WD caviar (not suspended). so you...

well the SE16 500GB tested on SPCR is a FOUR platter driver and still on par with SP80(1 platter) so why would a WD2500KS 3-platter be a problem? I am myself looking at either WD2500KS or T7K250 but Im kind of curious about next-gen Hitachis (T7K500) waiting around the corner! http://www.hitachigst...

Western Digital WD2500YD

This drive was just reviewed on Anandtech. The thing I find interesting about it is that it only has two platters for 250 gigs where as the SE16 line uses 3 platters for 250 gigs. I was thinking about buying an SE16 based on the SPCR review but now I'm thinking that this may be the way to go. http:/...

go with the WD SE16.....even if there is some sample variance it is obviously capable of being very quiet. i don't trust other review sites assesment of accoustics. they often make stupid conclusions about numbers that are obviously within the error of their test equipment/setup.

If they are a small US company that makes their products here I might be willing to pay a bit more to support the local guy.

oh and they also have a 100% satisfaction policy....worth something for sure.

Hopefully we will see a review soon.

to get rid of "hissing" try damping the coils of the inductors on the motherboard and power supply with epoxy or hot glue. don't completely cover them because they may need to dissipate some heat....but get one half of them so the coils can't vibrate.

now all we need are some good core duo motherboards.....

the 1.8 GHz actually isn't that expensive at $300.....with a motherboard that can overclock I would consider it.

Aren't the low voltage Core Duo already there? Duo LV-L2400 has a TDP of 15W.
X2 3800 would blow it away for gaming though

huh....that's an interesting take. I think I am often interested in even tiny incremental improvements because I am in the weird "quiet overclocker" niche. I want to squeeze every bit of performance out of my system for gaming....but keep it nice and quiet at the same time. So I am kind of intereste...

i don't think very many people here are interested in SLI or Crossfire video cards for heat output reasons. there are also very few situations that it proves to be cost effective. for most people a 7800GT would be enough card for the next year all by itself.

What's not to love?

stock passive chipset coolers
great overclocker with passive stock cooling
HD Audio
firewire
cheap price

This board seems to be exactly what I have been waiting for to replace my quirky Asrock dual SATA.

you can leave it at 5V all the time.....that's what I do.

I have my x800gt unlocked to 16 pipelines and the core clocked to 540. even at 5v the zalman still does a better job than the stock cooler.
