Seagate Momentus 2.5" 5400.5 access/seek noise?

I upgraded my Dell laptop hard drive from: HITACHI Travelstar 5K160 HTS541612J9SA00 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb to: Seagate ST9320320AS 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s The new seagate drive has a constant access/seek sound, where the Hitachi never did. also my fan seems to run a lot mo...

8800 with a slot cooler ??

I just installed an evga superclocked 8800 GTS yesterday and was shocked by the temps. (core 576Mhz, mem 1700 Mhz stock OC) 65C idle, and 75C load (yes, I know overclocked and silent rarely go together, I'm trying to improve things) Until some good aftermarket coolers come out for the 8800 GTS, has ...

I like the Zalman fanbus. I tend to turn up fans late, and if ambient temps are higher (say Summer) I can ramp up sooner. Only 2 fans for me to control. (rear 120mm, and front 92mm) PSU has already been modded to a Nexus 120, and runs from 400-900 rpm based on heat. Sort of my backup should the rear...

The case and cable are just connectors to the MB for AC97.
The AC97 software/driver does the detection.
A lot of them use a single port for multi-use.

You might try updated drivers and check your cable to the mobo.

Thanks for the info !

Reading further it looks like the P180 may be more to my liking.
The 900 seems to be the flashy forced air behemouth.

Although the SG-01 has half of both sides punched full of vent holes, so I'm accustomed to the noise of air flow, but only a subtle wooshing.

Antec 900 case?

I did a search and didnt find any discussion on the Antec 900 case (rev2 with the rear slot fix). I would think this mid tower case would appeal to SPCR's with it's 200mm top fan, and 2 fron 120mm, and 1 rear 120mm that could all be undervolted for huge airflow yet quiet? I'm currently using a Silve...

HD up or down with cooler?

DISREGARD: I tested out the answer, with the SG-01 by raising the hard drive higher and closer to the DVD drive cage, it heats up the drive more, and the poorer airflow of the Vantec also caused the HD temp to jump 5C and was slightly louder than my old solution. Back to the old solution !!! On a b...

the Opty option

Being on a 939 socket and not wanting to buy a new mobo and new RAM for dual core, I also opted for an Opty 175. My micro ATX Asus A8N-VM CSM only allows FSB 200-240, and I can do 230 without sound acting up (old SBLive card) so I wanted the more expensive 11 multiplier chip. If your FSB can go a lo...

This is a good article on comparing power consumption conroe vs x2. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core2duo-shootout_13.html The 35W X2 3800+ is $400. The Conroe E6300 looks to be 45W for $229 and E6400 50W for $330, and the E6600 $52W for $459. It's also an architectural leap ahead of...

I read the AMD AM2 EE low power chips cost quite a bite more. The X2 3800+ 35W part was $300, compared to the $150 of the standard part. If you read the xbit article that fire posted above, it shows the conroe's coming in with much lower power. The guy who was getting 52C with the stock HSF must hav...

Why would you compare an E6300 ($229) to an X2 3800+ ($150) ? For $180 you could be an X2 4200+ or $266 for an X2 4600+ ($230 for X2 4400+ in a socket 939, but you wanted AM2) I read a guy using an E6300 with stock fan was running at 52C. I thought these were 65W parts that ran cooler. Since I'm int...

I think as an intel fan you're underestimating the demand issue along with new chip, could have a bug. They had a math issue with the completely new P4 a long time ago.

It does seem to raise the bar though.

Who on this forum would ever run (4) 80mm fans at 100%?
It's a well thought out case, but for $350?! ouch.

I'm old fashioned and like to keep my case pricing $100-150.

SG01 Hard Drive Temps

I'm a little concerned about my hard drive temps with the drive cage setup in the front of the SG-01 and it being somewhat of a dead spot for airflow. I put in an 80mm fan for cross flow, but it's the loudest fan in the system. (PSU is 120mm 800rpm, cpu is NT06, video is VF-900) The Hard Drive will ...

Just setup the Silverstone NT06 in my SG-01E, and wow. I thought the cpu would burn up, since I modified my Enermax Liberty 400W fan from the stock 800-2400rpm (noisy) to a Nexus 300-800rpm fan, but it’s doing well. I’m running folding@home to load the cpu, and it’s only hitting 41C. I’m usi...
