"I'm getting 28c idle, and 43c with load, and after a few hours of cpuburn it only hit 50c"
WoW! 43c under load!!!
I'm running the exact same XP-90 but with a 2.8Ghz Prescott and I get 45c idle and 57c load!
Nice job.

OK, so I've taken delivery of my new Antec SLK3700-BQE and so far, I'm very impressed with the results. What I'm looking into doing now while testing the machine is tidy up some cabling as best I can. One question before I make a mistake a may end up regreting. The standard Antec 120mm rear fan that...

I quite like the idea put forward by Ralf Hutter and shooting the damn thing, but instead of attracting the unwanted attention of law enforcement, turn it into a licensed sport. Instead of using an assualt shotgun, you could use a sporting shotgun. Using the Vantec Tornado and the various other nois...

Compaq Proliant Challenge!!
OK, the situation is: For a year or so now, I've been the proud owner of a compaq Proliant 5500R rackmount server but unfortunately it's been lying around doing very little but gather dust because I had nowhere to place it. Just recently I've acquired a server rack and some space upstairs to locate ...

I'll have to admit, I have experienced this same problem, though, not to the extent of making my computers switch off. Our house that we moved into last year is an old Spanish farmhouse, which fortunately has electricity points but non were grounded. I use a small application called CD-Bremse (or CD-Throttle) to slow down my Samsung SW-252B. A great application that runs in the systray and loads at startup. I think it would be advisable to RMA the drive and get it replaced. Although all drives vibrate to some degree (its the nature of all things that rotate at highspeeds!) the vibrations you are obviously exhibiting are a little excessive, and Dell cases aren't reknowned for being flimsy & cheaply buil...

Pulsar, in an attempt to cease the annoying buzzing from my Barracuda 7200.7 drive I downloaded and ran the smscan.exe from a bootable floppy. I think the reason is because MikeC does'nt recommend it. It may be more effective on older drives than on the current crops of HD. If I rightly recall, the SilentDrive review by MikeC was in relation to faster, more modern drives that may produce too much heat to be used comfortably within the enc...

I'm surprised no one as yet has recommended the molex SilentDrive enclosure. These are perfect for the slower, aging drives of yester-year. I currently have two that are used for whiny Seagate U5 drives, that spin at 5,400rpm. I can only assume that your 6Gb drive will spin at similar, if not slower...

Worried about my Seagate 7200.7
Before I send an email to Seagate technical support, I thought I'd drop one off here first, as the advise from you guys is always sound and prompt. I purchased two Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80gig drives a few months ago, but didn’t get around to putting them to use until last week. As I needed a litt...

Most of the coolers mentioned only seem to mention socket A use with no mention of socket 370. Can I assume that these socket A heatsinks are compatiable? Thanks Jaime That sure is the case. Only this week I purchased two heatsinks for my two PIII 933Mhz servers. So I then looked slightly closer to home in the UK at www....

I too am quite interested in quietening my Cisco 2912XL switch (rack mount also) that has three screamers installed in the rear. An idea that someone posted here at SPCR about using velcro to adhere fans to the case sounded so simple it had to be brilliant, so I decided to try it out. 30 minutes later and €2 euros out of pocket, I had purchased a small pack of velcro squares (about 2 by 2 cm big). Luckily, both the velcro hoo...
