REvision to PSU recommendations- suggested revision

Mike:

To add clarity might I suggest a revision. Instead of
0-250,
250-400,
and
400+

You really mean:
0-249,
250-399,
and
400+

I was looking for my 400 in the 250-400 part and rad on to find my SS-400 in the 400+ section. Nuaince, but more clarity.

Cheers,
Scott

FYI: I got my SS-400 installed. I have a case with 2 input and 1 additional exhaust fan, + new Thermalright 900u HS with Panaflo fan (on P4 3GHz). Total of 5 fans w/PS. I can't hear the SS-400. I replaced all the stock fans and now have front L1A + M1A; rear M1A, HS M1A, stock PS fan. I used M1A's s...

SLK-900u. Blow in or Out, anyone compared?

I am anxiously awaiting my soon to arrive Thermalright 900u heatsink (HS) for my P4 3.0/800. It appears the recommended fanflow direction is into the HS. This seems illogical, and not best but I figured there must have been a reason. It appears to me that "sucking" the cooler air in from the sides w...

OK, so let's agree ducting is a good thing. WHat about direction of airflow? With my (soon to arrive) Thermalright SLK-900u, it seems to me that if ducted so as to ensure the full fan's airflow was pulled/pushed through the fan would eb a good thing. No problem there. But... It seems to me that pull...

Thanks, I studied the rewiews and recommendations. If I go with the highest recommended SLK-900U, what fan is best? I'm (now) fluent in the 80mm panaflo's but unsure of the 92mm's. What are teh best options there. I saw a mention of the Panaflo 80L and a PC power and cooling 92mm fan. Thanks! Scott

P43.0 stock CPU fan replmt, it's loudest thing I have.Help?

Greetings: I'm progressing along with my high power "quiet as possible" build. I have the SS-400 which I swapped the fan for a M1A - good to go there. I have 3 case fans, L1A and M1A on front, M1A on rear. All controlled by Intel D865MB. Good so far, all of above seems very quiet - that is , I can't...

Liq: Thanks for the tips. I went with the Seasonic and have replmt fans on the way, too. The 6070 looks great so far. It's intake for the front case fans are on the bottom, immediately below the fans, and may be a little restrictive, have to see. But as for feet, it has good, thick/tall feet - the k...

Well: I bit the bullet and went with the SS-400 with every intention to swap the fan per Mikes personal setup right off the bat. I ordered (5) M1A fans (@$7.52 each) with tach sense from Digikey, along with a couple L1A's to have on hand. I also got a couple of "minimal" fan grills and I'll cut the ...

Hi Mike. Will do. "Intel® Precision Cooling Technology" is what they are calling it. Here's the link to it: http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/precisioncooling.htm Note that my board isn't listed on that link, but the slightly older 845 and an 850 board are. DO you know if the one you saw was one ...

BTW, I forgot to post above the MB is rates at 800mA per front and rar fan header, so one could apparantly add way more fans than the 2 needed to the MB for control. And the processor fan header is rated at 1600mA. So plenty of headroon form devices to control, just don't know how well it does it (y...

It's the D865GBF. 800Mhz FSB. It's not here yet, but looks very nice (fits my needs well plus nice bells and whistles).

100! Excellent. I have since read in the MB's 140 page spec book that the header does have rpm sensing inputs. I assume that's for Intel's own software monitoring/reporting software. So If it's there I'd rather have the rpm sensing. Maybe M1A's are the way to go.

Thanks,
Scott

Temperature control/Monitor MB vs. other

OK. I'm working right along building my new quiet(er) system and I have a case that I'll swap the existing fans for L1a's on isolators, 1 exhaust, 2 intake. A SS-350 PS with an L1A (or M1A if I can get it from digikey) fan. My Intel MB will have 3 connections for temperature controled outputs for - ...

Well, I have the new "quiet" Lian-li PC-6070 alu case. It has 1 exhaust and 2 intake fans (which I was going to swap for the Panaflo L1A's (or maybe M's). So I have extra case cooling available. I was under the impression the 120 Fortron was as quiet as the others with the 80mm fans. Maybe not? Halc...

Halcyon: Thanks, yes, after mushing over it (yet again), I decided I think I'd try the SS, too. I think I'll try th e350 as well since other posts by you and others indicated this one runs perhaps slightly better than the 400. Then again, that Foutron 350 with the 120MM fan is still looking very int...

aphonos: Good point. IF all are to be drowned out by the drives, then any would do. If the Fortron 350 has enough umph, it's the cheapest not much point in not trying it. halcyon: As I eluded above, your suggestion seems reasonable. Thanks for the tip on the Nexus. I also looked at their NX4000, but...

Do you have for example Seagate Barracuda HDD installed on the same computer? If Yes, then that might be the problem but the cure is known - ferrite rings. This may happen with any PSU.
What is the cure? Is there somewhere that deetails this fix?

Thanks,
Scott

Confused, need advise on PS selection

Hi guys: The more I study it the less I know. I'm really hoping for some good advise or opinions here. Here's the dilema: I will have: - XP Pro on: - new Lian-li PC-6070 (the new "quiet" model) case due tomorrow. - it has 1 rear and 2 front case fans - I'll plug in as necessary - the new P4 3.0GHz -...
