err, I am rather ashamed to need to admit this, but upon closer inspection it seems that my HD-brekdown was selfinflicted... I used cablestraps to suspend the drive and it seems as the vibrations of the HD caused them to snap, both at the same time, so my HD hit the floor and broke instantaneously....

go for the Samsung SpinPoint P80, i have a samsung 7200.7 and it makes an annoying idle noise :? go for the spinpoints :twisted:

doesnt sound very good, i was thinking of buying this exact model myself, according to ralf here "the samsung p80 is way, way quieter than the segata 7.200) so if this model gives a way an idle whine, i wonder if seagate would be a better choice after all? hmm. this is very confusing indeed. sorry ...

I have the Samsung 52X, much louder than i expected it to be, but much quieter than the LiteOn than i had before (that thing makes so much noise and vibration when burning that i always think the whole case is going to fly off the ground). The Toshiba CDRW's found in Dells are the quietest i've heard.
