Re: They make them now! Would these work?

I hate to bring a post back from the dead, but this thread comes up at the top when trying to find info about fan mufflers. I don't like to "mod" my parts, due to the PITA of getting a good clean look. I have a couple of good power supplies, one that I want to quiet is the OCZ gameXstream 700. I ca...

At what point does this project become an obsessed "How low can we go?" crusade? Honestly, Mike - I have to agree with previous commentators - it's already well past that point of obsession. As a lazy reader who can passively enjoy your hard work with zero effort on my part, I'd love to see the spe...

floating floors and temptations

Awesome project, Mike! The results look amazing. If it were my house, I'd be tempted to use the room to listen to music - especially with really good open headphones (which let in ambient noise). And children (visiting or resident) might be tempted to hide or play in there, too. So it might be wise ...

Just a general comment on this thread: One of the great things about SPCR is the focus on critical thinking. The greatest enemy of critical thinking is orthodoxy and dogmatic belief. ... Along this whole line of thinking, I agree, with additional observations: 1) Tone is really subjective in a text...

Enlightening. I lack the skill, time, and courage to make one myself, but it's inspiring to see the creativity and workmanship of other SPCR people. I had no idea pine could look so good!

resonance vs. absorption

Doug, what a beautiful case!

Did you find that wood resonates more than sheet metal of standard cases? How does your case compare to the thick polyurethane cases out there? And do you think one might get the best of both worlds by wrapping a normal metal case with, say, a lot of foam?

Loading both CPU and GPU

Could you get full load on both GPU and CPU if you had a dual-CPU mobo, allowing one CPU to take care of the graphics benchmark while the other is doing CPU-Burn? Or since this is water-cooling, how about using two separate (but nearby) motherboards with waterblocks and letting the tubing go from th...

Hey guys, I just saw this and was wondering if anybody tried it. Or if it might be one of the upcoming reviews... ;-)

Sweet success!

SPCR rocks! :-D The new components definitely quieted my machine and even dropped the temps! The SLK-800A rocks! I just installed my SLK-800A with Arctic Silver Ceramique in a snap, and topped it off with a Panaflo 80mm L1A (12v for now). I removed all four Vantec Stealths from my case and soft-moun...

Caved in ... bought the SS300FS from Directron for $44 plus $6.43 shipping. (Axion Technologies has it for a couple dollars less, but I like Directron.) Hey, I put SPCR Forums as my referral, so maybe they'll listen to us more. :-) On an unrelated note, thanks to you guys, I wound up getting four L1...

MikeC, I noted that you said the newer FS series should now use the newer, quieter fan, which I assume makes newer Seasonic PFS psu's about as quiet as the Super Silencers, right? If so, does anybody know how to tell whether a FS series is "new"? I mean, apart from the slightly higher efficiency of ...

clarifications

Oh, and thanks for the deja vu ducting post above - I used the decouple-mounting for the rear case fans, and that seemed to cut down on vibration. I made my duct out of cardboard, and it doesn't output exactly on top of the CPU fan, so that's why I added a fan to give it some juice. I also experimen...

How much warmer? And is this also the case if the muffler only covers the PSU fan? Warm, but not hot - like a warm exhalation from a person's mouth. Sort of like the difference between a hair dryer on "warm" rather than "hot". I currently can't really put the muffler over just the PSU fan, b/c the ...

Anybody yet seen reviews on the HardCano? http://www.furioustech.com/hardcano9/Index.php Sigh... I guess this thing doesn't have auto control, I guess I misread the initial description. Wow, thanks everyone! I didn't get a notification email, so I forgot about this thread... I bought a PSU muffler from http://www.muffledcomputing.com for about 30 bucks, and it works reasonably well. (Contrary to their recommendation, I decided to apply the adhesive so that it covers not only the PSU fan but also the 80mm case fan right below it, which works alright on my case.) However,...

I did buy just a switch from Radio Shack, and I have an extension cable to mutilate and solder, but the problem is where to mount the switch in an accessible location. :-) I prefer not to mutilate my case too much (but then with the tin snips I guess it's a long, slippery slope to becoming a crazy m...

DIY fan filters?

Does anyone have experiences to share with DIY fan filters? Especially with my new windowed case, the presence of dust and hair from the floor inside the case is rather unattractive. Plus, even with some reduced airflow, it strikes me that in a few months, dust buildup on fans will reduce efficiency...

Fan and light controller?

Are there fan controllers that also support dimming / switching a cold cathode tube that is hooked to a 4 pin Molex connector?
