Well, I'm happy to report that I installed the 8600GT last night and everything seems to be working fine now. Still pretty peeved that I had to waste several days trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with the Radeon 2600. But I'm just glad I've finally got my new system up and running and ca...

It really is a strange issue. My old 9800 pro could run 2 monitors perfectly without any flickering. When I first got my 7950GT, I actually thought my secondary monitor (a 17" ViewSonic TFT) was dying. When I replaced the ViewSonic with another Samsung 244T, I was expecting the flickering to be gon...

Thanks for the reassurances.

I probably underestimated my ambient temps. It's about 13C outside, so I guess it's prolly more like 20C or so inside. :)

Which temps should I believe?

I seem to get significantly different numbers between Core Temp 0.95 and SpeedFan 4.33. http://dev.syntheticlife.com/temp/q6600_load.gif http://dev.syntheticlife.com/temp/q6600_idle.gif Ambient temp is around 13C. Load temps are with 4 instances of Prime 95 running for about 5 hours. I'm using an Ul...

Perhaps you could try to borrow another digital monitor that you can hook up via DVI, just to see if there's still flickering? Yeah, I have another DVI monitor that I did try to hook up, and the same flicker issues were still present. (The reason I don't use that monitor is because it isn't standar...

Just to rule our the cable AND the screen itself, try using just the analog monitor on its own and see if you have those problems. Didn't think of that before. When I run the analog LCD as the only monitor, the flickering is gone. So thus far I've isolated that: 1. The flickering only occurs on the...

Swap the monitor connectors on the card. Try a different DVI-DB15 adapter. Tried those already, no luck. Change the resolution of the monitor that is flickering, and check that the refresh rate is within spec for both monitors. I've already confirmed the refresh rate is within spec, but never thoug...

Do I have a bad video card?

I just put together a new system (Q6600, P35-DS3P) using an MSI Radeon 2600 PRO card with dual DVI, and there's an odd flickering going on with my secondary LCD. My primary LCD is a Samsung 215TW, connected via DVI. Secondary LCD is a Samsung 770TFT, which is analog-only, so it's connected via a DVI...

Will a quad core CPU allow me to multitask more effectively without bogging the system down? Quad core or Dual core for the long-run?

I'm debating whether the added expense and heat output of a Q6600 Quad Core would be worth it over an E6750 Dual Core. I'm a web developer, and during peak times, I tend to have open all of the following at the same time: - Photoshop - Fireworks - Dreamweaver - Firefox, IE7, IE6, Safari, Opera Photo...

Buy new or stick with my old Seasonic or Fortron?

I'm finally looking to build a new workstation to replace my 4 year old P4 Northwood. Is it worth the expense to upgrade to a new PSU or should I just stick with one I already have? If reusing, it'd either be a Seasonic S12-330 or a Fortron FSP300-60PN. Is the Corsair VX450 or one the newer Seasonic...

Thanks for the replies. I couldn't find any motherboards I liked that had dual video outputs. I would prefer to get a Dual DVI card. Passive video card for the non-gamer?

I'm putting together a new PC, and I'm wondering what the best, most cost-effective video card would be for my rather basic needs. I run dual monitors at 1650x1050 and 1280x1024 (I would like more headroom than this in case of monitor upgrades). I primarily use my PC for Web development work, so cri...

Removing Antec fan bracket

So I've gone and cut out the stamped grills on the back of my Antec case (Performance II series). However, I can't seem to figure out how to remove the purple Antec fan bracket from the case without resorting to breaking it. Is there some trick to removing that thing? I'd prefer not to break the bra...

The Chaintech-$40 New egg,-is 1/2 the cost of most 24/96 or 24/192 cards-the catch is no reviews yet and minimal info on Chaintech's site. I'm assuming you're talking about the AV710. It...

I'm planning on building a HTPC soon using a 3000+ Venice on the MSI RS480M2-IL mounted within a Silverstone LC11 case. FWIW, all four of the Samsungs I've ordered from Newegg have been NIDECs. These orders were spread out over a year's time.

Other people have reported getting JVC models from Newegg, so it looks like it just might be the luck of the draw.
