That would be niceI'm gonna pick up either a FSP350-60THN/FSP400-60THN in the week sometime so hopefully will be able to report how the compare to my older FSP300-60PN.

New Fortron-source Blue Storm series
Anyone tried them? They claim 70% efficiency minimum, less than 23dB(A) (up to 50% load), and also they look nice. Also, anybody now the difference between the "FSP350-60THN-R" model and "FSP300-60THN"? (apart of the first being 350W and the second 300W) http://www.home2000.net/client/fspgroupusacom...

About the fortron the review says: the power supply unit works at a pleasantly low noise level with 27.0 (minimum load) to 35.3 dB(A) (maximum load). I know that my system probably won't draw 300W, but my case temps are high (about 45°C-50°C as MBM 5 reports) so that will probably affect the PSU and...

Fortron quieter than Super Tornado?
I want to buy a new (and quiet) PSU, so I was looking at the super tornado and found this: The device is equipped with a 120-mm fan. At minimum load, therefore, the operating noise also comes in at an almost inaudible 26.9 dB(A). On the other hand, at maximum load, it is loud by comparison, with 40....

To answer the question in the topic: "When the computer no longer contains moving parts." This is the big hurdle to overcome, and probably won't be possible until solid-state storage is cheaper, faster, and more reliable. Solid-state storage is actually very fast and reliable. At least some solid-s...

He was refering to bitmicro E-disks. 110 MB/s is the ATA version, so the transfer rate is limited by the IDE bus. SCSI version is faster: "boasts random I/O rates of up to 50,000 IOPS, burst read/write rate of up to 320 MB/sec, sustained random read/write rate of up to 230 MB/sec, and capacities of ...

I have a Samsung Spinpoint SP0802N (80GB, single platter, 7200RPM, 2mb cache, ATA133) and it doesn't have any humming noise. The seek noise is almost inaudible, i have to check the HD led to see if the disk is being accessed (during normal day noise). However, it does have an audible whine which is ...

I have a Spinpoint 80GB 7200RPM (2MB cache, ATA133) and it's the quietest 7200rpm drive that i've heard. Also it's faster than my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X 7200RPM 60GB HD. I don't have a Barracuda V to compare, but i'm sure that you won't be dissapointed with the Spinpoint, i would bet is quiete...

I think IT IS possible but it would be expensive. I should be something like this: Cpu -> Fanless Heatpipe CPU Cooling System PSU -> Fanless HD -> Solid state hard drive (No moving parts, no noise, no heat, and FAST) With that setup i think you won't be able to know if the computer is on (from heari...

Thanks for your comments!!! Whine, that's the exact word i wanted to use. Good to hear about that. So what made you try it? Silence!! :D and i'm glad that Samsung does care about it, still most manufacturers don't. Samsung sure would sell at lot of these... if they could get them in stores all over ...

Just bought the Samsung SpinPoint P80 SP0802N (80GB 7200RPM)
I must say that this is the quietest hard driver i've ever heard. The difference with my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X 7200RPM 60GB HD (without fluid bearings) is enormous. I'm impressed, the hard disk seeks are almost inaudible, i just see the HD led that blinks. However, it have an audible idle sou...

Quieter than Barracuda IV
I'm looking for a new hard drive, because i have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus D740X 7200RPM 60GB HD (not with fluid bearings) and it's far from silent. It's seems that the Barracuda IV 40GB is the quietest HD, but i saw Mike's Samsung 1604 review which appear to be fastest and almost as silent. However,...
