Re: E-ATX case with window?
What's more important, EATX or a window? Is your motherboard EATX or not? Many EATX motherboard do not fill the full EATX size and some will fit some normal ATX cases with just a bit of overhang of the motherboard tray. Good point, even the smaller FT05 and RV05 can fit larger than ATX, but not ful...

Re: E-ATX case with window?
The only two I can see from the SPCR list are the Fractal ARC XL and Silverstone Raven RV01. The later is pretty expensive, but has been updated a bit.
The problem you have is that you want a small big case, thats cheap and good, that is quiet and has a window

Re: Fury X Front Panel Customization?
Yeah I never quite got why backplates aren't more popular as they are what you see in 99% of windowed cases.
I know they had to make PCIE different from AGP, but I don't get the upsidedown approach.

Fair enough, I thought it worth raising.
I have to say its a shame. NZXT do some nice touches, like the illumination of the IO. Though that may be patented.

NZXT have a new variant out, its called the Noctis 450. http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/154-n450-noctis-gaming-mid-tower.html The main point I would make is the far more open front: http://www.nzxt.com/uploads/product_images/case_n450/N450-case-black-front.jpg and top http://www.nzxt.com/uploads/...

Re: Time to start over?
Hi All, the cage is non removable. I removed all the unneeded sleds to free up as much in the front as possible. I could keep the case, its not in terrible condition. I just tend to build new machines in new cases and most of my old machines live on later as desktops for family. That said its a good...

Re: Time to start over?
Thanks for being understanding quest_for_silence. I hope I didn't offend you either. Openining up the case was good opportunity to check that the Blu Ray drive worked, but I failed to check that it used the same connectors as a full size board. Adapaters are on their way! The supplier claimed to hav...

Re: Time to start over?
Okay maybe everyone isn't understanding. I posted an update explain my new build was on hold. Then I get asked about the problems with my current machine, which I have already decided to scrap. My update post was done at a break at work, no where near my PC. I reply with what I know off the top of m...

Re: Time to start over?
I can't remember off the top of my head, but it was a enough to thermal throttle my 970. My mate had the same problem with his 780. However in general its been pretty hard to balance the system since I started gaming more. Early on it was just a quiet system for surfing and light gaming. Then I got ...

Re: Time to start over?
Update: Ordered parts and was already to build, but a supplier claimed they had stock of the MSI Z97A Gaming 6, they didn't. I am now away on business next week, so I cancelled the big order. I have a Scythe Kotetsu and slot BL writer, everything else on hold. Would a Asrock Killer Z97 be a good opt...

Re: Gigabyte G-Power BL (GH-PDU21-SC) cooler K7 brackets
I know this is a terrible suggestion. But is a Socket A clip, not usually a bent peice of metal? Could you not take one from another heatsink and reuse it? Maybe increase or decrease the bend acording to the depth of the heat sink base? They all look pretty similar http://www.silentpcreview.com/arti...

Re: Gigabyte G-Power BL (GH-PDU21-SC) cooler K7 brackets
Hi there,
its been on sale for nearly 10 years now. I'm guessing that they have revised it.
My best guesses are:
- Get one second hand on ebay
- Find someone else who has used one in a build and ask if they have the parts
- Contact Gigabyte.

Re: Socket A CPU top-down heatsink
Haha! thats probably the CPU I had when I first joined. I had an Athlon 750, the a few XPs 1600+ and 2000+ (I think). Sad thing is I threw out a load of old heatsinks last month. Big copper cube for socket A, think it was a Thermalright. Shame about the timing, though that Gigabyte is probably better.

Nvidia Shield (2015)
Something I noticed in a review has a small fan. This doesn't mean the shield can't be quiet, but I think most of us are used to small android boxes being 100% passive.
Just thought I would bring that to everyones attention.

Re: Time to start over?
Hi Steve, I think there is some misunderstanding. That's an old layout, I referred to it just to show what the interior is like in my machine. Like I said "I have two 120mm fractal stock fans in the front and BeQuiet Silentwings Top 140mm (disconnected extra fractal 120mm, as it was buzzing)." Its o...

Re: Time to start over?
Cheers for the advise. Yeah mainly games. To be honest. I'd like to say otherwise, but I do enough work at work if you see what I mean. I guess the issue I have at the moment is balancing idle noise, ie when using a browser and gaming noise. I can bring down the peak noise, running the extra exhaust...

Time to start over?
Hi all, my rig has evolved over the past few (5ish) years. It was a light gaming machine, built around a second hand i7 920 and a Fractal Design Define R2. It was quiet, but not amazingly so. I had a 560ti in it for the longest time. Fast forward to today and It has cooling issues. Its now: Fractal ...

Re: ASRock Fan Control
Good to know. I have an Asus P6X58D-E and the fan control is very basic and not Speedfan-able. My CPU is fine, but if I did change it would be because of IO and features like Fan Control. I wish there was a Fan Control list. Having the ability to set fans completely off via the BIOS/UEFI is a major ...

Thanks for the heads up on the Signature. My work has a stupid quota policy and I can't freely look at the web at the moment (writing this from Lynx). I actually have an order placed for a HX 520w with Scan, but they don't have stock at the moment. I took the advice above and aimed for a ~500w psu. ...

Quick FYI whilst researching the XFX 650 I read that it has a PC P&C branded PCB. It seems OCZ who own PC P&C terminated their relationship with Seasonic leaving them with a lot of PCBs. Hence the XFX has a Seasonic made PCB with a PC P&C logo painted over. Also found this nice wiki of the manufactu...

If you take care of noise, avoid that PSU like the plague... Cheers for the advice. I am aware that the H50 is less than ideal, it was just a nice added extra with the 920. I guess I should at least pick up a moderatly quiet air cooler like the Gelid Tranquilo or the CM Hyper 212 Plus. I really hav...

Hi All, I am retiring my current setup due to excessive noise, I think my passive cooled 7950GT managed to cook rest of the setup. My friend was selling his i7 920 and a Corsair H50 for £100 so I plonked for that. My current setup is: Core 2 e4400 + Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 2GB of DDR2 Gigabyte 946...
