Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread

I'd think you could run the fan at a much lower rpm and still maintain decent temps. Would you mind trying? Whoops, I meant Noctua, not Nexus. This one (Noctua NF-A9x14) stalls at 1000rpm, and it's not that stable, so I've left it at 1200. It has the advantage of being slim, but I should imagine an...

Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread

I received and installed the Palit Kalmx card yesterday and am pleasantly surprised. Most of the quiet versions of the 1050ti seem to be quite long, which isn't ideal owing to the position of the hard drive cage in my case. Also I have a thing for big shiny heatsinks :) First thing to say is you can...

Re: Coolermaster's Fanless TC-100 mini-ITX case

It looks like this little case is now available from Caseking in Germany with a range of heatpipe adapters.

I'm looking to upgrade to a 5750/5770 and it seems from discussion so far that the best solution is the HR-03 rev A. But I can't find any in stock here in the UK or indeed anywhere in Europe. The MSI 8600GT I'm using has the cooler wrapped round the top of the card in the same way and it works well ...

BENQ E2200HD
I have this display wall mounted and connected to my HTPC.
It's a great screen and the backlight is silent, but as it warms up it creaks!
Really annoying when you're watching a movie!

HP L2335

Audible whine at less than 96% brightness. This is my second one, the first was louder. It's not blindingly bright so can be run at 100%, but the S-IPS panel is a bit power hungry at this setting.

There is another more stand-alone digital media device I'm trying to get a sample of... www.olive.us Very slick. No need for a PC.
That's amazing.

This looks like an interesting and well thought out device. It's nice to see products coming on the market which offer genuinely decent sound quality, as opposed to just hype. I'd just like to back up some of the general remarks Mike makes about digital music playback. Having invested in a decent (M...

Audiophilia nervosa is a potentially serious complaint, especially in the wallet department. I used to suffer from this myself, but like Beyonder ended up with a home built/modified valve (tube) system which has turned out to be remarkably satisfying. These days I just replace parts when something g...

One word to say about Overclockers UK: AVOID!! I returned a heatsink I got from them under the distance selling regulations. They tried to charge me and denied any knowledge of the legislation, and it took well over a month and several (polite) threats to get my money back. IMO they have a bad attit...

I've had two drives in this setup for a couple of months now and slippage hasn't been an issue yet. I put marks on the cage for levelling so it would show. I was surprised myself at how secure it feels, I obviously hit on the right combination of cord/clip. A smaller diameter clip under the existing...

Trip

Almost certainly. As it happens it's unlikely to be going anywhere in the near future, which is just as well given the weight of the thing. If it were I'd wedge some foam down the sides, or use the regular mountings as Aphonos pointed out.

Aphonos,

Yes, I left the top and bottom slots unmodified in case I fouled up, ahem, I mean for transportation purposes.

I hear what you say about the drives slipping down. Nothing has moved yet but will definitely keep an eye on it. Getting all those knots lined up could be a serious business!

slk3700 suspension mod

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/clive.rosso/spcr/dd3%20005c.jpg Here’s my take on hard drive suspension, a modified SLK3700AMB drive cage based on Aphonos’ method. The default Antec setup while good doesn’t seem able to tame the noise of the Barracuda completely. I cut out four strips in the sides of ...
