David Hays!
Great to hear from you. Sorry to hear about your troubles, but I hope things turn out for the best in the end. Things have been quiet here since you left.
Let's hope that folding farm goes to good use!

First post here, hi everyone! Another poster - MikeM - mentioned that a 70mm Acousti DustFree Fan can be mounted right below where the air flow baffles can be attached. Has anyone actually done this and is it effective? The reason I ask is because I am using a MSI K8ngm2-fid mobo in this case, and ...

Just picked up an NSK2400 yesterday, for CAD$99, and all I have to say is: "GO MIKEC!" One quick note, for unsuspecting consumers: the dimension specifications on Antec's site are wrong. Well, actually, they're close. The metric values are correct, while the Imperial values have the depth and width ...

I have two Seagate drives in my quietest system (which has only one fan at 7V; inaudible during the day but ever-so-slightly noticeable at night). I've noticed that neither drive (a 40GB IV and an 80GB .7) could be considered "loud" or "annoying" on its own, but when they are both running, they prod...

Please forgive me, Ed, but which one is it? I messed around with it for a while and found it to be the quietest keyboard I've ever tried other than the rubber, "indestructable," ones. It's quieter than any laptop keyboard I've tried or the Logitech diNovo. It's quieter than my IBM! The feel is...

About a year ago, somebody linked to a site with instructions on how to use a Zalman GPU cooler for passive (ie. fanless) Slot-A cooling. Search for that and see what you think. Otherwise, a fanless or very low-airflow GlobalWin VOS32 will do the trick. Those Athlons actually produce a fair bit of h...

Use the "-config" flag when starting it to set processor utilization. Say "yes" to advanced options when prompted. Example: ./FAH502-Linux.exe -config <other options, such as verbosity, advmethods, etc.> The "-configonly" option also allows configuration of the client, but exits after configuration ...

With your non-SSE CPU ( especially AMD), you will notice that the Tinkers bring in points at a much, much higher rate. However, it is impoosible to specificallly request Tinkers. All you can do is not ask for Gromacs, AFAIK. Disable the "large WU" option in the client, and don't request "advanced" W...

Lite-On drives are known to be noisy, unfortunately. My Pioneer is mid-pack during normal operation, but the boot-up noise is very irritating. I can't hear any odd noises coming from my new LG drive. It makes some noise when reading/writing, but it's relatively quiet, and it makes no strange boot-up...

Zyzzyx is correct. It's part of the power-up cycle of the drive, unfortunately. After four years of faithful service, I still love my slot-load PIoneer, except for that dratted boot-up eject sequence. I think it's it's to make sure there isn't a disc stuck halfway between being inserted and ejected ...

My Palomino Athlon on-die temperature has been registering in the 80- to 90-degree-Celsius range constantly for the past two years (folding = pseudo-peak load). Then again, my Celeron 466 measures less than 10 degrees above ambient while folding... I agree with Pjotor's comments about the hard drive...

I would encourage you to try the stock fan on the Fan Only connector or change it to 5v before you swap it out for another. Mine stock fans are roughly silent at 5v and my system temps are fine on my front bezel modded Sonatas. Seconded exactly. (Except that a SS400 doesn't have Fan Only connectors...

He has already got an LCD-TV, and plasmas generate a lot more heat than LCD-TV, so that would make things much worse. But... it's a 42" LCD projection TV ... so I think that my only-semi-serious remark still holds minor value. Those AC-DC transformers will only produce negligible heat compared to a...

I also have a "Temp3" at minus grades "-48ºC" It's perfectly normal. When you undervolt a CPU so low that you go past 0V and into the negative voltages, the temperature of the die starts to drop commensurately below room temperature. EDIT: Added smiley to compensate and apologize for my odd s...

I lied. After browsing the manufacturer's specs, I notice that the min. voltage on the output side is 5V, regardless of the temperature reported. But I also bet that a resistor on the output will reduce the min. (and max.) voltage further. The unfortunate compromise would be that the initial burst w...
