Re: Silent Home Server Build Guide

Where are the photos?

Any review needs lots of photos. You have stock shots of individual components and no photos of the assembled system.

Did anybody bother to take them? Not much help without photos.

I don't think comparing _todays_ test results for the Triton to _whenever_ days test results for the other coolers is really trustworthy. I think you should only compare heatsinks that are tested at the same time (eg same day), otherwise there are too many variables in the test equipment, test setup...

On my DS3 i need to up the voltage to the nb by 0.2 v in order to o/c so i definitely needed the extra cooling. Right now i run a stable 3 GHz with a E6400 cpu with reasonably low temps (about 28C idle to 38C load) with a Big Typhoon cpu cooler.

One of the advantages of water cooling is that most of the cpu heat is removed from the case. With a psu fan drawing some air thru the case you may be able to eliminate your case fans, but your hard drives should have some air circulating over them. A small fan at 5 volts blowing over the hard drive...

The first three statements were 'rhetorical' in nature. The last sentence is qualified by "apparently many readers" wanted more than just entertainment in an SPCR article.

With proper cooling, a decent psu and good memory you won't have any instability issues at stock speeds. If you o/c and stress the cpu at 100% load the chances increase for instability. But with dual core you will need threaded applications which utilize both cores simultaneously to approach 100% lo...

Your ram should be fine. If you raise the cpu fsb then you may have to adjust ram timings and/or dividers in the BIOS if you have ram set at 1:1 and tweaked.

If you have good PC3200 ram it will be OK.
