Weird...I knew this stuff looked familar. Just a few days ago, I was looking at this page , describing gallium and a gallium alloy that you can buy and science experiments you can do with them. The page contains this picture: http://sci-toys.com/scitoys/scitoys/thermo/liquid_metal/small_two_vials.jp...

Thanks all for the tips. Despite the assurances, I was worrying that the 300W might not be quite powerful enough, so I just went ahead and ordered a Seasonic S12-380. That should do the trick. It'll also help with airflow and should be nice & quiet. The 300W SilenX might have worked, but I'd rather ...

The CompuCase LX-6A19 is the same internally as Antec's SLK3700-BQE but it doesn't have a door. It does have 120mm fans in the front and rear, so you can get excellent airflow through the case.

Something to consider.

COLORSit PSUs?

Has anyone tried one of these COLORSit PSUs? 120mm fan, honeycomb back -- looks like a Seasonic knockoff. I assume the quality/silence isn't as good, but you never know.

Anyone here have any experience with these, good or bad?

You might ask Jim from CoolCases, as I think he pulls those fans off the CompuCase LX-6A19s that he mods. See http://www.coolcases.com/catalog/case_cclx6a_cat.htm: Factory pack cases: the included fans are two Globe 120x25s, and these are equally feature laden: they are true variable speed, and have...

40mm fans already move so little air (~3.5cfm) at 12V that I don't consider them to do much good at lower voltages. You may well be right, but it's worth pointing out that the volume of the airspaces in this heatsink, measured in cubic feet, is very small indeed. 3.5 cu feet of air moving over a NB...

Thanks, Stjopatron.

I don't have a temperature probe or any other real way of monitoring the NB temp -- how will I know when it gets too hot? Maybe I'll put an undervolted 40mm fan on the NB47J. If there's room that is. Have any of you done this? If so, how did you mount it?

thanks in advance...

25dBA isn't twice as loud as 14dBA: the scale isn't linear. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=2796&highlight=3db+ From the thread you linked to: +10 dBA sounds twice as loud for most people; -10 dBA sounds half as loud. This design with the 120mm fan on the bottom and the honeycomb rear grill looks like a winner. But at 25 dB, the noise rating on this PSU suggests it would be trwice as loud as the 300W Ahanix SilenX, which claims 14 dBA. Anyone been able to evaluate the 300W Fortron "noise killer" and SilenX side b...
