Re: Corsair 600T review

I am doing something similar with my Corsair 650D. Cutting grills and such too and adding the foam. I'll be going for a Coolermaster Megaflow in front since I don't need the HDD bays at all (just putting an SSD in the 5.25" bays). For the rear I was almost gonna buy the same Noctua, but I will try ...

Re: Corsair 600T yet?

I have a 600T (white with window, though I have acoustic foamed over it..) and love the HELL out of it. Best case ever. See my comments and linked review here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=60112&p=548879#p548879 (TL;DR you want to tin snip the front and back fan grilles ...

Re: Corsair 600T review

This is a great, great case -- easily my all time favorite. My review is here: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2011/07/building-a-pc-part-vii-rebooting.html I've made a few mods worthy of mention since I wrote that. 1. First with a bullet: *DEFINITELY* tin snip the grille for *both* front 200mm and...

Re: Sandy Bridge + i3-2100T -- why can't I get under 22w idl

As you can see, that guy got similar results to yours with normal psu. Startlingly similar.. 22w idle for different mobo, same CPU, 4 GB. Only 3W diff could be anything. I see original review used a single SSD while you are using HDD (and BR drive idle ~0W). Still, that explains ~ 2-3 W gap. Yeah, ...

Re: Sandy Bridge + i3-2100T -- why can't I get under 22w idl

Yes, probably. Intel boards generally have the lowest power profile. At such low power levels, the old 300w 80+ cannot be running any better than maybe 65%. Maybe less. A decent 60~80W AC/12VDC adapter can reach around 90% efficiency and, even if it drops to 70% at 10W, it will be better than any 3...

Re: Sandy Bridge + i3-2100T -- why can't I get under 22w idl

OK, sounds like the PicoPSU is the way to go here, since I don't feel like swapping the motherboard... yet. Question #1: the motherboard has both 24-pin and 4-pin power connectors . The PicoPSU does not provide a 4-pin power connector; is it OK / safe / acceptable to leave the 4-pin power connector ...

Based on the (excellent!) Missing Remote review of the i3-2100T: http://www.missingremote.com/review/intel-core-i3-2100t-and-bh67cf-mini-itx-motherboard I built my own low-power Sandy Bridge HTPC based on the i3-2100T: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2011/03/revisiting-the-home-theater-pc.html Howe...

Yep, works. Ati Control Center hotkeys probably don't have anything to do with it IMO, but disabling the "external event ATI notification service" sure as hell does. Now I can play videos in Media Center without the minimum processor state CONSTANTLY being reset to 100%. Good one ATI. You suck. And ...

From another forum
I had that happen randomly (power state manipulation) on my laptop. I had to disable the ATi hotkeys in the Catalyst COntrol Center, and disable the ATi Service. Everything seems to work fine now.
Gonna try that now.

I know it doesn't look as good as a closed solid case front, but when the difference is 10c no matter how many mods I make.. it's worth it.

And as I mentioned, my PC (sadly) dissipates ~350w under load now and ~250w at idle as measured with the kill-a-watt, so it's kind of important..

Open the door (push on the right-hand side), then press down on the top hinge as close as possible to the case. It has a little bump on top that will disengage, and let you remove the door with no damage. This worked great! I pushed a flathead screwdriver into the hinge as close to the case as I co...

As I pointed out in another thread, I have found that an overlapped slat arrangement front door really keeps noise down, while still allowing excellent airflow. I think that's the sort of thing we need for the P18x. I too would love to buy a new door. Totally agree, now where's Antec on this? :) In...

I've played with the P182 for ages, snipped every fan grill, and removed the air filters and the plastic covers. Even with all those airflow improvements, the difference between case front door open and case front door closed is DRAMATIC , on the order of 10 or more degrees celsius. I documented the...

Guys-- you have to realize that the 8800GTX is a beast . It pulls down upwards of 130 watts under load all by itself. Even an overclocked quad isn't going to get close to that. (and the GTS uses much less power, too. That's why it only has one power connector) At least with the CPU, we have the opti...

That's a good idea-- I bet expanding the P18x side ventilation slots would work. I'm not sure how much airflow would improve, but every little bit helps when the front is clearly quite restrictive. I'm a little hesitant to start chopping away on such a semi-visible area of the exterior of the case, ...

Another semi-interesting data point. With the front of the case open, (and thus the completely stripped down, no-filter, no-grille hole in the middle exposed to open air), 8800GTX temperatures actually rise when I take off the side panel on the case . And by quite a bit, too.. 4-5c! That's one "blow...

8800GTS draws a fraction of the power of an 8800GTX. That's why the GTX has two 6-pin power connectors, and the GTS has only one. 8800GTX about 146 watts http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/gf8800_11.html 8800GTS about 104 watts http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/msi8800gts-64...

The swing-out doors in front of the inlet filters on a P180/182 should always be removed. They cut the air flow almost in half. No kidding. Those things are CRAZY restrictive in my testing. If your fans are slow, the front door should also always be left open, since the tiny slots around the door d...

I agree, it looks like a constricted airflow problem on the P182. This would explain why there's such a large delta between temperatures with the side panel on and off. For the record, I found my P182 / 8800GTX combo would overheat during gameplay because it was basically suffocating. Plenty of air ...

I mounted a low-RPM 120 millimeter front fan in the front middle fan mount on the P182 case. P182 -- massive case airflow problem?

I love my new P182 case. As far as I'm concerned it's the best. case. ever. However, I noticed a few strange video card crashes during gaming , so I investigated. Note that I have performed a few mods on my P182, so this is a better-than-normal situation. I've already.. snipped out the fan grills in...

the seven series from nVidia has an outstanding bang-per-watt ratio. The 7300 GS power draw is quite low (9w idle, 16w full load), so I'd imagine the 7200 does better. There is a point of diminishing returns, however-- 3D performance at a below-7300 level will be in the toilet, if that matters to you.
