Re: Is there a problem with head parks on WD Green HDDs?

Please consider making this a sticky.

I rediscovered this thread after stumbling across http://www.waldner.priv.at/ramblings/ and contemplating a heads up post to this forum.

What are your impressions of the D510MO? Do you have any fans in there and how are the temperatures? I'm still commissioning this server, but so far I think that it's good value. There are complaints in some reviews that it doesn't make a good HTPC, but I suspect that's only the case if you want it...

Except for the cable are you happy with the power supply? Yes, it arrived very neatly packaged and functions well so far. The long standoffs were not useful to me. I think: An option for ATX extension cable An option for short motherboard-style standoffs would be useful to others. See here for some...

D510MO Server

I have a circa-1998 dual Pentium II HP Kayak system that functions as my general email, web, and audio server running RAID1 Linux. I worked on it as a distraction a couple of years back and silenced it to make it tolerable (though not silent). It also works well as a small heater for my media room. ...

For fans you can use the dedicated smaller two pin connectors near this 4 pin molex there are two one is 12V and the other is 5V That was just the question I was about to ask. Which is the 12V and which is the 5V two-pin connector? What are the pinouts for the two-pin connectors? Which pin is ground?

Received my PSU and mounted it alongside my motherboard.

The ATX power cable is should be longer to be useful in more configurations. It was too short for my needs, and I had to purchase an extension.

I'm also looking around for something similar. The JetWay page shows a small (noisy?) fan on the CPU heatsink.

How are you going to silence that fan?

The Canadian Samsung site is totally useless, misleading and frustrating for obtaining service for your drive. If you visit www.samsung.ca you might eventually find the warranty page . Recommendations for external native SATA drive enclosures

I'm contemplating a new Mini ITX system with externally mounted hard drives to make drive servicing simpler. I run a simple Linux RAID-1 system comprising two drives. I don't want an enclosure with built-in USB or RAID functionality. I think what I'm looking for is something like this: http://www.co...

I have [FanSpeed] running now and [unlike SpeedFan] the fans do not just jump to full once the predetermined temp is reached. Very impressive but not sure if it will work on all boards. I didn't like the SpeedFan control very much. When I was previously running SpeedFan and my CPU temperature was b...

It seems that speedfan really wants to draw things on the desktop, and since you don't have a user desktop yet it will get an error when trying to do this. To run things as a service you must stop the program from interacting with the desktop. I couldn't get SpeedFan to do what I wanted --- it evid...

It's pretty simple to get any program that runs from an executable to run as a service using MS's netsvc. Running SpeedFan at startup on XP

Does anyone know if it's possible to get SpeedFan to run immediately on startup on XP?

In its standard configuration, SpeedFan only starts when a user logs in.

This means that any fans it controls spin noisily at 100% (with an idle CPU) until someone logs in.

The SS-300FS has two sets of intakes. The larger set is on the far side of the case opposite the fan, and the smaller set is adjacent to the fan and typically draws air from near the motherboard. In a vertical tower case configuration, the smaller intakes draw hot air from the motherboard (and hot c...

Poor computer desk design suffocates Seasonic PSU

My noisy PC is gradually transforming into a quiet machine. I recently swapped out my Enermax EG-365P VE for a Seasonic SS-300FS (non Active PFC). I recently bought two Seasonic 300W supplies. I bought my first Active PFC unit from a reputable source. On close inspection, I could see the unit was labelled as "SS-300FS Active PFC". I bought my other unit later second hand from the local classifieds, at what I thought was a bargain price for a j...

I recently discovered this site whilst figuring out what kind of fan to buy to provide some extra cooling for my case. The thing about this site is that it becomes addictive.
