I applied the Arctic Silver 2 thermal compound the way I learned when I had an Athlon XP CPU, and didn't think to check if Core2 requires a different method. I'll re-apply the compound according to the new instructions and check if there's any improvement.

The processor is a Core2Duo E6600, Intel DG965WH motherboard and the fan is Arctic Cooling AF12025 PWM. Idle temperature is 44C with the fan running at 430 RPM, full load using BOINC gives 61C with fan at 1405 RPM. Intel TAT load test increases temperature to >70C. The good news is that the PWM fan ...

What I'm more wondering about is why not more heat is transferred to the Ninja. I have been disappointed with the Ninja performance as well and when I removed it the reason was revealed: http://www.tuubi.net/markkuk/ninja1_tn.jpg http://www.tuubi.net/markkuk/cpu1_tn.jpg (Click the thumbnails for la...

A question comes to mind: does setting the fan speed in BIOS to 10% mean 1.2 volts ( either by PWM or not ) or does the BIOS consider the fan to be stopped at anything less than say 5 or 7 volts, making 10% fan speed 5.5 volts perhaps? No. This thread is about 4 wire PWM fans , not PWM control of t...

I believe you are mistaken that all motherboard RAID is software RAID. If that were true - you wouldn't be able to boot from a RAID drive on a mb controller because the operating system would already have to be running. Motherboard RAID chips come with driver software in the BIOS that allows Window...

How to set up the /etc/ntp.conf file and get ntpd running on my server. I can start the service, but it doesn't seem to work, so I'm, 95% certain it's simply a config issue. - pick some (3-5) time servers from the list of public time servers and add "server" lines for them in ntp.conf. - add "restr...

You need to run ntpd as a daemon if you want to keep accurate time without disturbing any running programs. ntpdate should be used only to initialize the clock at boot.

PATH tells the system where to find executable programs, it has no effect in compiling stuff. You must modify the compiler options in the Makefile to add "-I/opt/gnome/include/gtk-2.0".

New kernel packages should be 'installed', everything else should be 'upgraded'. You can use 'rpm -U' even when adding new packages.

I have a PAPST 3412 N/2GL on a SLK-900U cooling my 2.4GHz P4. It's inaudible under the PSU (Antec TruePower) noise, and keeps the CPU below 50C with continuous 100% load (seti@home).
