My big NG just arrived and I am learning how to use it. I have a couple of questions I wonder if anybody can help. 1) The RPM is reported wrong by the big NG? At 12 a Nexus 120 was reported by the MB running around 1000, but the bigNG reports 800. Plus when the fan stops the rpm is not reported as z...

Yay! That settles it. Thanks guys, I did not realized that it has been already discussed. mhv10, please let us know in case you succeed in mounting the zalman cooler. Now I just need to decide between the 945GT with Intel core or an older 915 with pentium M. Fact is even a pentium M would be more th...

I am not so sure. Intel specs for the core duo, page 43 states: "The processor is available in 478-pin Micro-FCPGA and 479-ball Micro-FCBGA packages". I also checked alternate one of my preferred, but it is even more confusing: The board 945GT is listed under socket 479M together with all other boar...

Getting information about the 945GT, I noticed that the processor socket is pin type 478 for yonah. Unfortunately I cannot find any retailer with this kind of socket CPU. I find Intel Core only on ball-type 479 socket in EU. Am I understand correctly the processor support of the 945 GT? Alternativel...

We have tested the P4P800 with the ST30NF and had no problems. Good news on my bad diagnosis. I wonder what my problem was. Not necessarily a bad diagnosis, since it is a slightly different model. Who knows. Anyway I had no problems and I have been running the ST30NF for few days now on the followi...

hmsrolst: (2) I tried the PSU with my P4P800-VM system and it wouldn't boot at all. RE (2), testing the PSU shows there's no -5v line, and maybe some mobos require it. I am thinking to try this PSU, but since I have an Asus P4P800 motherboard this comment of course worries me. Can anybody confirm t...

My experience has been that Nexus disktwin is better a few degrees than the zalman. On the other hand the conditions of my experience were with the zalman first version (C1) and with a low cfm fan blowing on them. I don't know if we can use this result to infer the same data for a version 2 zalman w...

I don't think the rubber mount of the Disktwin will be as good as a suspending solution. I assume it would be pretty similar to your current setup, but I do not have first hand experience. I did not use the mounting facility of the disktwin. On the other hand I have 2 raptors 74 on disktwins with 1 ...

Ibliss, you are welcome. Unfortunately I did not test the part were these two coolers attach to the case. I do not believe in either solution, so I just put HDs on foam or on elastics. Needless to say that the noise was exactly the same for both having the HD on foam. And needless to say also that t...

House Heater as reservoire and radiator?
I have a normal house water heater at the wall behind the desk with the PC. I never use it because the room is always warm enough. Would it be possible to use it as reservoire and radiator for WC the PC? Surely I would need to adapt the pipes and probably a big pump. I got the idea watching the Inno...

I have used w2k for 3 years. I was forced to upgrade to XPPro to use hyperthreading. I have never seen any difference except from hyperthreading support and faster boot. Both make the PC snappier and nicer to use. So I stick with XP. If you don't care about boot time and do not have hyperthreading I...

To reach the front fans here is what I did: Slide away the HDD case Take the front door away The front panel (covered by the door) is fixed with four small screws on the side. Unscrew them and there you go. You are right about the push-pins that hold the ADDA fans in place. You cannot use them for t...

slavic, I understand you are cautious about HDD. I plan on adding a zalman ZM-2HC1 HHD cooler and hope the temps remains acceptable when i will uncouple the HDD. I used gel mounting rounded thingies for screws found in the Vantec Fan Dampening kit as suggested here. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/...

Slavic, I have recently notice the air noise too. In the front intake is more annoying than in the back. Don't know how to handle that either except trying to undervolting the front fans. 1. All 3 fans are runnig at 12V. JVM, yes you are right. My comment about not a top silent solution was related to the fact that I see most people have only one intake fan when they have something. Inaudible was a comment related to the fans when I tested them before mounting them. Effectively very goo...

I have seen these as well. Do they make much difference? From what I have read and experimented, the difference depends on the fans and the case. If you have a case prone to vibration and strong fans, they do a bit of difference. With a good steel case and low RPM good fans probably not. The air fl...
