Im running a ABIT AN-M2HD (7050pv) with a X2 4800.

Working perfectly with 1080p mkv's.
HDMI works out of the box.

No issues at all!

well since it's 3.3,5,12 and gnd missing... it isn't a problem..
Esp since the 12V should be used from the same line as the other 12 in the connector.
Aka lots of adapters 20->24 avail.

Intresting post.... True yeah kinda.. What the author forgets is that a normal appartment/house isn't just that PSU and nothing else... its alot more, including your neibours The more crap each component feeds back into the powergrid the higher will the powerdraw be in total due to lost effectivity....

Well... the normal checks works quite ok..

aka

* Does it smell strange?
* Is the heat coming out really hot?
* Is the sides of the PSU hot?

If it's a no to all of those then I wouldn't be to worried.

Anand test of 2 drives in RAID0 :http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=2101

Actually RAID 0 is exactly what you should use if you have random IO.

Well the normal way to do this is to get more drives and RAID them.

So what I would suggest is getting 2 or 4 more Samsung drives and run them in a RAID 0 set.
Either from the MB or PCI card.

That should give you a very nice boost without raising the noise too much.

60C is just fine if the comp is stable and fine.

But yeah a big nice air intake prolly would lower your temps alot.

Well since you can adjust the fanmate... turn it down until you get a load temp thats comfortably high for you...
Me personally wouldn't hesitate to raise it to 55C (at least)...

As long as you are stable you shouldn't worry too much about the temp itself.

One solution Ive seen id to take a 80mm->120mm adapter and stick it on the backside(outside) of the PSU. Then bolt a 120mm fan onto that. Worked very nicely, esp with the increased space from the companents reducing the turbulence.

A shroud on it to funnel the air through the PSU (aka using it's fan) should be intresting.
(If your using a 120mm that is)

Well I wouldn't worry about noise from a res. The only thing one would do is drop the flow rate some.. thats about it. Normally nothing to worry about. Well... Im quite sure we'll see something like BTX in the near future.. Why? Well the current ATX doesn't have any airflow management at all. Everything under 50ish and you are totaly safe I would say, I personally prefere 46ish in temp.

Yupp a fan for the disks is a good idea... it can be a really really tiny one with very low speed.. so you don't have to worry about noise levels.

Well if your going for linux you can start out with http://www.freevix.org/ and rip out the Freevo part of it.
Should give out a total size around 7-8M for a boot image and filesystem.
Booted either from USB/CF or PXE network
