OP, I run an almost identical system to yours on a Seasonic 460W fanless with no problems at all (stock though, I don't OC)

Re: i5 3470 too hot?
The idle temps seem around 5-7c hotter than they should be. Not exactly a show-stopper but if you are that worried, these are the things I'd check off: 1. Reapply the heat sink compound and re-seat the cooler ? 2. You have the fanless Seasonic.. I assume the heat vents are sitting at the top of the ...

Re: Are SSDs really that bad?
SSD are to expensive and small to even be taking seriously. I don't buy into the hype about how wonderful they are. When they cost the same and provide that same capacity as traditional harddrives then I'll take them seriously. There just not worth it. You're trolling, but here goes. :) Cost and ca...

Yep. And I wouldn't worry about putting it in a 'bottom chamber' style case either, I have mine in a P183 and it's FINE.kuzzia wrote:Isn't the Seasonic X 400 modular?

Re: New P280 Build, Welcome Comments
You don't even have a dedicated GPU in your rig, a 400w Seasonic fanless would be OVERKILL.. go fanless, the seasonic is not even going to break a sweat let alone generate any heat !!! My 460W fanless barely gets warm in my system which is semi similar to yours plus a GTX 680 !! I like the P280 too ...

Completely silent high-end/Gaming rig ... DONE !!!
After years and years of experimenting with quiet PC components I have finally going to the trouble of building a virtually silent gaming/top end PC !!! It's the quietest build I have ever put together.. it is practically inaudible in normal use. When gaming and the GPU gets a significant workout (G...

Noctua DH-14: Stock fan control
Hi there all, Has anyone out there in SPCR land tried to slow up the Noctua DH-14 stock fans via attaching them to a fan controller or controlling via software ? I notice that my DH-14 maxes out under 100% CPU load at the low to mid 50c mark.. that leaves a LOT of headway.. I would like to try to sl...

Re: Pulling My Hair Out-Cooler Choices
I have the extact same CPU and a GTX680. I went for the Noctua DH-14... was also considering the CH-14 but I liked the idea of venting the heat out the rear of the case to keep the warm air from getting into my GPU. The DH-14 is an excellent cooler and very, very quiet once fitted with the ULNA adap...

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
I've just added a Noctura DH-14 and next up is the Seasonic 460W when I get around to picking it up.
Cheers

Double-check - Seasonic Fanless 460W enough for my system ?
Hi guys, Before I pull the trigger on a Seasonic Fanless 460w I thought I'd double-check that the unit will be fine for my system. I have a P183 V3. Specs are: i7 2600k CPU (@ stock - not OC'd, never will be) 16GB ram (4x4GB) Gigabyte GTX680 (moderately OC'd by Gigabyte as standard - takes 1x6pin an...

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
I'll stop for the moment and take stock once I get the Noctua CPU cooler in. Once that's in the system should be near silent so I will be able to better guage how much the PSU ramping up truly bugs me.

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
OK, I'm thinking about maybe trying the 460w Seasonic fanless instead. My FULL rig is as follows: Intel i7 2600k (at stock) 16GB Ram (4x4) Gigabyte GTX 680 OC (runs a little higher clocks that the standard and takes 1x6 and 1x8 pin) 2xSSD drives 1x 1tb 7200rpm drive (to be replaced with a 5400rpm 2....

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
Actually, one more silly question. The Seasonic supports up to three PCIE video cards... that is, 3 sets of 6 pin/8pin dual connectors.
It is easier on the PSU load to run 1x6 pin from one connector and 1x8pin from another, or should I just run the dual 6 and 8 pins from the single connector ?

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
I tried the fan on normal already, it's very quiet (not silent though obviously). Also checked the GPU, it's clocking right down when not gaming. I'm going to try putting a front fan in the bottom chamber to see if that keeps it cooler. If not, then I would have to assume that I have a dodgy temp se...

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
Definitely on Hybrid... I double checked it. Going to monitor it tonight and if it keeps firing up I'll try an intake fan in the front of the case, otherwise, I guess it's still a great PSU.. just had higher expectations I guess. I've double checked that all PMW settings are right, nothing is runnin...

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
Well, happy to say it's a lot quieter, but the fan still starts up from time to time in windows when it shouldn't. Tempted to stick a Noctura at low RPM in the botton bay to try to draw a little more cool air into the PSU.
A bit frustrating... the Seasonic cost me a small fortune...

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
Thanks dudes.. I'll report back in a few hours. I guess it does make sense....the fan is an intake, therefore I am currently drawing air from the rest of the case where the GPU and CPU have dispersed heat. Warmer air in = higher temp = fan engages. Whereas drawing air from the bottom of the case/ext...

Re: Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
Ok, sat up to all wierd hours of the night and narrowed it down to the PSU. It seems that the fan is kicking in even during internet browsing/desktop stuff. I don't mind if it kicks in when I am gaming, but having it fire up when on the desktop is a pain in the bum. I bought the seasonic on the assu...

Monitoring fan speed - Seasonic Gold 1050W
Hi there all. I've been out of the upgrade loop for a while hence out of the SCPR loop too. Just did a big upgrade and bought myself a Seasonic 1050W GOLD. Re: Please help finding quietest gaming card!
This is not a necro effort, it's just that I saw this thread and thought the recommendations were good.. a lot of people struggle most with noise from GPUs. A short resurrection might be handy for those trying to silence GPUs. I will throw a further option into the mix: Download MSI Afterburner (for...

Guys - my temps are fine. Temps are now lower than when the 4870 was installed because the GTX280 is venting heat through to the back of the case whereas the 4870 with the AC Twin Turbo was leaving the heat inside the case. nothing overclocked. THe simple fact is that the PSU won't drive my rig since the card was installed.. it was 100% rock stable beforehand so it's definitely a PSU issue (the card itself is not faulty). Back when I had a 4870 in there the PSU would also ramp up it's fans to jet-engine speed within a ...

Need to replace PSU: Zalman 850w and 1000w
Hi there all.
