We have a lot of DC71/7600's at work, and they all stay very quiet even under heavy use. Its a semi-btx layout with a thermal path for the CPU. A big step in the right direction, compared to the earlier D530 SFF models, that were borderline useless at anything other than idle, with the same Pressie ...

If you can live with something thats merely quiet, the Arctic NV5 Cooler fits fine, as long as you trim .50 inch off the plastic exhaust shroud. I originally planned on a MSI 7950GT passive, but none were in stock and I just settled for a Asus vanilla 7950GT and the above mentioned cooler. I run it ...

In the XP-120 review, you had the Zalman in the charts as a reference. Could you be persuaded to do the same here? Always nice to have a fixed reference. I would buy the XP anyhow, if not for the n3rd factor then because I just love the look of the pipes - they kinda remind me of performance headers...

As hard a replacing ay HSF I guess? If the stock backplate doesn't fit (screw holes to small or whatever), just mount the one that came with the SLK?

Backplate on the back of mobo, heatsink on the top, insert screws and tighten. Rinse, spit and you're done :D

It seems as though some of them have tried it out on 80GB versions as well, and did the trick. Apparently all 7K250's produced later than 0404 should have this installed already. The SATA link may have been down, but I've just downloaded it with success. If you look through the thread you'll find mo...

I removed my 120mm grills, removed the 92mm fan from the PSU and closed the hole. Opened up the rear slots on the PSU and made a very simple cardboard PSU duct (work in progress / proff of concept)

The PSU never goes above 1500rpm (starts at around 1300) And the air leaving it is pleasantly cool-ish.

What about using a zip or twist-tie to connect the "duct" to the panaflo instead of screws? This ought to make a little more room for the SLK clips to grab the duct. (First picture)

Also, grab those pliers and open up the back of the PSU ;)

What's special about "vampire" molex's?
They "bite" into the cable as it passes through the plug, hence vampire. Makes for some lovely clean cablework.

But besides that, I see no reason what so ever to choose XP over W2k... I'm not replacing W2k until its at the same point in its life cycle that W98 is now.

What are you expecting them to do? They don't slow down the fans, and adjust them automaticaly out of the box. With Speedfan, do you get 2 or 3 boxed with a % value in them?

Dont wanna burst your bubble or anything, but a 2400xp, one harddrive and a low range FX5200, is not a hot system. I doubt that you really need the case fan. If this doesn't cut it, I'll try placing a Intel boxed fan close to the back of the case running at 5v. I did a test with this fan, and I can't hear it at all. Think this si...

I've bought myself a FX5900XT for my gaming rig, and am thinking about using the TI4200 it replaces in my workstation. I've done a search, but couldn't find this anywhere, so here goes: If you are the proud owner of a new'ish HP Pavilion, with a thermally controlled CPU and Case fan, you should be able to control the setup via the Advanced (uhuhhuuh secret) Bios, hit F11 during POST to enter.
