Do you really need to keep the 5.25" kits? Typically people get these kinds of things to either provide cooling, quietness or possibly for info (ie temp display). P150 should provide excellent cooling since it has 2x92mm fan mounts in front of the HDD cages. Should be fairly quiet at least from vib...

Antec P150 hard disk suspension
I've been looking to get a new case/power supply and the Antec P150 seems almost perfect for me. Does anyone know whether it'll be possible to suspend a 5.25" drive in the HDD bay? I currently have a 74GB Raptor in a Scythe Silent Box and a Seagate 80GB SATA drive mounted with a cheap HD vibration s...

As a matter of interest, the heatlane bit was hardly hot to touch - I really do not think it was doing a very good job of conducting heat away from my drive. I've got a 74GB Raptor in the SilentBox and have found that the aluminium cover does get quite warm. Did you use both of the gel pads? I used...

The rubber isn't particularly soft but its not hard either. I've got it on my old machine with a Deathstar 75GXP. I also wrapped three sides with a 6-8mm acoustic barrier (foam+dense barrier). The difference was day and night. Seek noises went from annoying loud to muffled. Even idle noise was lower...

How well did the zalman drive cooler/noise dampener work on the Raptor? I've got the 74GB hard-mounted in my main PC with an Antec SX630II case and the seeks are painfully loud. I have the Zalman HD cooler in another PC which I might try with the Raptor. I've ordered the Sycthe SilentBox from QuietP...

From the reviews, it seems clear that the MSI 6600GT is an extremely quiet card but from a SPCR point-of-view, how quiet is it? Is the stock fan/heatsink solution acceptable for anyone here or is it still too loud? I really don't want to fiddle with heatsinks, heatpipes or other mods. Right now, the...

Enermax NoiseTaker with Passive PFC
How much difference is there between the Active and Passive PFC models? I can find the Passive PFC models easily (in Australia) but can't seem to find the Active PFC models.
Will it be a lot noisier? Is efficiency going to suffer significantly?

I have an Antec SX630-II and the SmartPower 300W PSU and it's quite noisy. I was thinking of replacing it with either the Zalman 300W APF PSU or Antec TruePower 330W but was wondering how much of a difference I would hear. Of course the 80mm Antec fan that came with the case sound like a hurricane s...

I was also going to get the AcoustiPack but it was too expensive. I found a local alternative which seems just as good. I bought the thinnest version they have and I've just installed it in my Antec SX630-II case.

Thick acoustic damping material
I'm buying a new PC very soon with an Antec SX-630III case. I was thinking of damping the case with something like AcoustiPack but with shipping from the UK (to Australia), it'll cost me US$99!!! Thats way too much for my liking. Instead I've found a local product called Soundsorber Barrier: http://...

I'm about to buy the Antec SX-630II case which comes with a 300W SmartPower PSU but was wondering how much quieter the TruePower 330 PSU would be?

Did you notice any improvements from using the vibration dampening washers and gaskets? I'm about to build a new system and I'm thinking of getting the Antec Noise Killers (which are basically the same as the Vantec) I'll be building with an Antec SX630-II case and was wondering whether these silico...

Norh has been known for their speakers and audio amps for a while but I didn't know they also make silent PCs. http://www.norhtec.com/products/panda/index.html http://www.norhtec.com/products/ss/index.html They have two systems (that look pretty sweet!), one with a 1GHz via chip (C3?) and the other ...

I have bad news for you on the Seagate 7200.7. I am currently using one. - the drive has no detectable idle whine - the drive is clearly audible when seeking (significantly louder than a Hitachi with acoustic management enabled) - the drive also has a lot of buzzing/clicking at idle - see other pos...

If near-silence is a high priority, you'll want to get the quietest hard drive on the market. In my dual XP1600+ machine, the suspended Samsung 1614N (160GB P80, IDE) is still the loudest thing in the computer, although its complete lack of whine makes the noise unintrusive. If I had a Raptor, I'd ...

The SR comparison was between an 80GB WD JB and a 160GB P80. A larger drive (of similar spec) will always be faster than a smaller one. HD prices rise quickly after the 120GB mark. I also don't really need a huge HD either. I'm concerned about both seek and idle noise. AFAIK FDB motors will help red...

Interesting. The other two reviews I've seen (OcPrices and myWorld) showed small decreases in temperature. Oh well... as long as its within the drive's operating tolerence, its OK with me. Also could you hear (or measure) any differences between mounting the drive with the Zalman cooler and the susp...

That is EXACTLY what I wanted to find out! :D Thanks! I've seen reports that drives run cooler with the ZM-2HC1 (compared to a standard mount in a 3.5" bay) but was worried it wouldn't have the acoustic dampening abilities of the NoVibes. I'm happy to see this is not the case. Time to go out and get...

What am I missing here? Following your link the Raptor is quieter than the Samsung Vsomething at idle? The 74GB Raptor isn't the problem as I'd definately be getting that! :D But I'll need more space so I''m getting a normal 7200rpm 8MB drive as well. My WD800JB has served me well but the high pitc...

I think the v80 5400rpm drive will be way too slow for me as my current PC is fitted with the WD800JB drive (7200rpm, 8MB). The Samsung P80 (7200rpm, 8MB) looks interesting and could be a good alternative for the WD800JB. I don't think it'll be as fast though. Take a look at these benchmarks Edit: S...

NoVibes or Zalman ZM-2HC1 Heatpipe
I'm going to build a new PC in a month or so and making it as quiet as possible is definately a high priority but I don't really want to sacrifice too much performance (or pay far too much) in doing so. The new PC will probably have the new Western Digital 10K SATA Raptor drive. Not sure whether to ...
