The thought of quieting down my xfx 6600gt agp has got me chomping at the bit to get this replacement part! If you're really in a hurry, you could always go and get the die for the thread they're using and thread it yourself. Just take the part thta is threaded into a shop that sells taps and dies ...

Ah, the ultimate problem - fast AND silent :-D
Well, I'd definitely go with AMD. There's an article here with the details , but the combination of lower actual heat output and the Cool-n-quiet makes AMD the best choice, IMO. I have to agree that a Radeon 9600 XT is mismatched with this rig (bicycle tires on a ferrari). I suggest getting somethin...

patents
Bottom filtered intake.. There goes the patent, Bluefront. ;) It's called "Prior Art" and Bluefront may well have a case here. There's big "Patent Pending" graphics on that Nexus page. It'd probably come down to the day they filed their patent application vs. Bluefront's post dates. Unless Bluefron...

Snap Servers
The Snap Servers are nice, although they're usually rather expensive, even on eBay. I'd be very cautious about using any single disk solution (e.g., Ximeta). At a minimum, back up that data in a couple of places. I have to say that putting two disks in a RAID 1 configuration is the way to go. I pers...

If there is anyone here who knows something about fluid mechanics then perhaps they could shed some light on this. Well, I know something about fluid mechanics, but it's not going to shed a ton of light on this. Adding that second fan shouldn't pose a big problem as long as the exhaust path is suff...

The patent system will not help you
Getting a patent on it is really easy (although it's not "cheap"). That doesn't really help you, though. The problem with patents is that related litigation is expensive. Let's say you patent it and someone copies it directly. Now you need to sue them and prove patent infringement in court. How much...

Oh, ASUS Probe is terrible, as it reports temps far below actual readings. That's strange. I just checked and Asus Probe was showing the same CPU readings as SpeedFan. I have an Asus A7N266-D mobo. I wonder if its accuracy varies? Either way, SpeedFan or MBM5 are probably superior since they collec...

new Lian Li case - looks strange!
This case is supposedly employing BTX thermal zoning concepts and and possibly "acoustic control". I'm not entirely sure if the acoustic note is something Lian Li is doing, or the article's author will do. Anyway, it should be interesting when it finally comes out and we can get a good look at it. :)

hazarding a guess
I'll take a guess, just because it sounds really similar to something I've been churning over design-wise. As for the case design sale, I'll tell you right now that large OEM case companies will not come knocking on your door. I wish you all the best with it, but you'd be better off attempting to fa...

- Attach the drives conventionally to the cage I would have to build a cage because the case doesnt really have enough space as it is to mount 8 drives with a decent amount of space between them at the front? I've got one of these in a dual AMD 2400+ MP system. It's very quiet, but not silent. Performance is excellent, however.

I have two of the Nexus 120mm "Real Silent" case fans on the way. I'll post once I've tested them out (sorry, no SPL meter available). Great! What fans do you have to compare them to? mouting "closed" fans
Damn, I went to order a couple right now and noticed that they have the enclosed style of mounting holes, which are incompatible with my EAR isolators. I'd have to order some of those Directron sticks if I wanted to use this. I'll wait for someone else to be the guinea pig. I have two of the Nexus ...

Maybe I'll try some more radical things. I've got a few Nexus 120mm fans on order right now. I was thinking to bury a sinlge 120mm fan in the middle of the case, with ducting to direct the air flow. I really don't think a single 80mm fan, undervolted, is going to supply enough cool air for the compo...

I think you may be starving the PSU for air with that arrangement. It shouldn't kick its fan into high speed mode with the temperatures you're describing. You've got a single 120mm fan on intake, and 2x 120mm fans for exhaust (rear case fan + PSU fan). I suggest trying to slow down the rear case fan...

HD cage suspension
Hi rthorntn, welcome to the SPCR forums! I think suspending the cage is definitely the way to go, but your description has left me a bit confused. You are planning to suspend each drive individually? So for heat dissipation you are going to attach U-channel to each drive individually? Sounds like an...

no radiant heat source
Hi FLD, there's no significant source of infrared heat in the box. The elements that do produce heat aren't anywhere near the point at which they'd be radiating much in the infrared spectrum. As stated previously, almost all the heat issues are due to convection. That is, hot elements are heating up...

Out of curiousity, how hot is the PSU exhaust? Nexus recently came out with some interesting 12cm fans. Sunbeam Rheobus will allow you to reach sub 5V levels. The PSU exhaust is usually just faintly warm. I really don't have heat problems right now. I think the CPU is shunting most of the heat in t...

Thanks for the suggestions, Sorenbro. The Papst fans you've had experience with have they been the 120mm fans, because most people find that the 80mm Papst can have some clicking issues while the 120mm do not suffer from this problem. Total silence
If you want to pursue a virtually silent computer (ie cannot hear it from your working location) try unplugging/stopping fans one at a time or in groups (including the PSU fan) to confirm your theory of the fans/air causing the noise. Have you tried getting the fans to run at less than 5V? You may ...

I've currently got one running with a Zalman 7000 CPU cooler, a rear 120mm Panaflo fan, and a SilenX PS. Both front and rear fan grills are completely cut out. The hard driv...

Seasonic Super Versatile 200 mATX - bad?
I recently got a Super Versatile 200 to use in an Athenatech A100 microATX case. This is to replace the 230W mATX PS that comes with the case for silence. :D So, I swap it out, hit the power switch, and it blinks on for maybe 1/2 a second and goes off. Very weird. I can see it spinning the PS fan, a...

Nexus Real Silent Case Fan - really quiet
Just another data point. I've got 3 of these, and they are definitely more quiet than the Panaflo and Papst fans I've tried in the past. Quiet enough that I haven't bothered undervolting them at all yet.
