Re: Is there specification for RJ45 pins crimp wire depth?
For specs you might find something in EIA/TIA under 8P8C. Look at a pre-made patch cord to get an idea of where the pins should be compressed to. Poorly made tools will sometimes over shoot the depth and cause the pins to lean to the side or will not compress enough resulting in no connection being ...

Re: SilverStone Kublai KL05 Budget ATX Case
The interior of this case looks very much like the Corsair Spec-02 I just used in a build.
The Corsair's side panels are bubbled outward to provide additional space for cable routing and for heat sink clearance.
Got it on a sale at Microcenter for $20 less also.

Re: A Windows system with idle power ~ 10 watt?
I just picked up an HP 110-023w this is a tower with a Intel G2020T 8gb ram (single stick) and 1TB drive. It uses a MATX style motherboard but is oddly sized and utilizes an external power brick. This is the Walmart package with monitor. I bought this to replace an old P4 for a family member, and fo...

Re: Silent Rackmount PC Build
Having the fans in the front puts the main source of noise in the front and does not cool the drives with the divider in place.
Perhaps modeling it after this
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article591-page1.html
would move the noise source and cool the drives better.

Re: Quiet Attic fan
Finding a quiet one is unlikely as noise probably does not factor into the design of these things. Another thing to consider is the plywood decking resonates considerably. Are you willing to go to extreme measures to sample various fans, isolating mounts etc? I can give you a bit of insight from per...

Re: Replacing intel I3 Stock cooler but with what ? for HTPC
Keep in mind that most htpc's are on the other side of the room 10-15' away, so silence is not necessary. Quiet is ok. You will not hear it across the room especially with audio playing. No real need to spend the big money on top end heatsinks and fans. In my Antec case the stock tri cool fans at 5v...

Re: "In Forums" new look has negative effect on viewing habi
Same here, the "In Forums" listing has lost its purpose for me also. Instead of listing the active threads and drawing me in there is multiple listings for the same thread. If said thread does not interest me then I tend to move on, only looking through the forums on occasion. Can this be altered to...

Re: north bridge heatsinks: any experience with these?
In the past I have been known to put the NB cooler on the SB and upgrade the NB with an aftermarket one.
The stock ones always seemed a little undersized. Be watchful of your upgrade blocking pci slots.

While I am inclined to agree in principle, reality is that this will not happen for a number of years. I purchased a PS3 for the Blu-ray and media center functions. All in one solution right? Then Netflix was locked out unless you used The Disk. Other devices that I have looked into will not run Hul...

Spare parts WHS build
As I am putting it together my first thought was to have a laptop drive for the OS and a GP 1T for the data, but something came to mind about WHS not liking this arrangement. Can this be done so that I can spin down the big drive for power saving reasons, or should I just install WHS on the WD drive...

leiff, There are a couple things that I have noticed here with this case. 1) This case has a major oversight in the fan mount department. The holes are too small, they protrude into the airflow about a 1/4" all the way around and essentially stop all the airflow. I picked up a handfull of Scythe Kam...

I was hoping that there would be some response to this when I saw it as I picked one of these up yesterday. The lack of interest is understandable being that this case is not exactly a good place to start for a quiet system. With the open air design any possible noise generated will escape so compon...

UPDATE: I was able to hang on to the chips until my mobo came in. Lucky for me as I was just going to use the 3700, which would have been a major mistake. The board came in and I had all of about five minutes to check them with Tcase here are the results. The 3700 from a newer shipment was a Toledo ...

Tcase is not an option at this point, dont have a 939 mobo yet. TDP threads seem to show different chips all over the place but within a similar window. The cost is not really a concern as much as the function is. The tasks are to be primarily a tivo type unit along with the other HTPC functions abl...

Chip choice dilemma.
Two A64's one is a 3500 and the other is a 3700, I can only keep one of the two. My plan is for htpc use. I looked them up at amd's website and found alot of specs but nothing that made any sense to me, so could someone translate the techno jargon into something useable. Please. The #'s on the chips...

Yes they can be undervolted, but....... (here comes the long winded part) I don't believe you will get it cool enough to turn off the fans. I recently tried to upgrade to a gigabyte 875 chipset board from and intel 845 board and the thing ran my 2.0 at 2019 mhz instead of the 1997 mhz that the intel...

maxxy, you also want to take the layout or design of your setup into consideration. In my sonata it seemed resonable that the silencer would be a better choice for the reasons that sthayashi pointed out. The Sonata has those holes in the side panels which would feed the PS better than pulling hot ai...

hi Greg, one more thing I thought i would mention in addition to Ralf's post is the Sonatas tend to resonate around the drive cages (at least mine did) which would add to your problem. My Samsung SP0802N did'nt whine but you could hear the seek noises (light thunking sound). During a mobo change I l...

I would have to agree with you that the reboots are probably related. The "upgrade" added a fan controller to your system (assuming you used the fan only connector) which would drop your fan speeds and CFM. The three prong connector (with only one wire) is for monitoring of the PSU fan speed only an...
