I have an artic cooling silent and it does what its supposed to do. However, when im sitting here typing and idle, the cpu temp is 49C which is pretty high for idling imo. It's gone through the summer so it works effectively. However, im planning on moving on to the zalman al/cu to see how much it w...

Well so far my maxtor dmax 9 is doing great. Now idling at 36C as i type. The temperature of the hd really depends on where it is resting in the case. For example in my cd bays, the hd would be near 40C and under my floppy area it would be 36C. I'm finding that the foam is much easier to use than su...

hey Phil 29degC is pretty good with the foam. Which side is it better to have the hard drive resting on? I always thought that it should have the shiny metal facing upwards.

Packing foam under HD

Stuffed a bunch of those little chunks of packing foam under the hdd inside the cd/dvd drive bay cage. It's much easier than using the elastic ropes since all one has to do is grab and throw(Well maybe not that easy). Prior to this.. dtemp read 30-34C and now its 36-39C. I consider this a success as...

Does the journey for the dead silent pc ever end?

After hanging a fan, snipping out a psu fan, tangling hdds in a cage, there is still noise! I'm guessing many of us have experienced similar problems. I'm just wondering how long people have spent on silencing their computers...months? years?

http://svc.com/mge360w.html I have a feeling that many of us know the online vendor SVC and have bought products from them. They have a pretty good reputation among online forums. However this power supply that I recently purchased from them falls perfectly in the category of dubious marketing. "Thi...

I recently ordered 3 panaflo 80 mm L1As from directron. Two out of three of the fans click while on high settings near 10-12 volts. It gets a lot better if you turn it down just a little so their still usable.

http://www.photohost.org/gallery/data/500/3176PHOTO2-med.JPG well i hope you can see what that picture is all about. I simply hung a panaflo under the heatsink of the GPU after taking the fan and cover off. Even when i overclock the card from 250/500 to 310/610 there arent any artifacts or distorti...

What sound is this?

I have a clicking type sound coming from the PSU and case exhaust fans which are both panaflo L1As. Almost anything over 5V will give out a clicking noise. I've read that some of these fans do this just due to design but there must be something else to it. I'm thinking that its due to the fact that ...

I have an abit siluro ti4200 and i mounted a 80mm panaflo right onto the heatsink itself. I took off the cheap plastic cover thingy and the fan altogether. Now its just a heatsink with an L1A over it at 5V. Seems to work fine and sounds really silent even if i put it up to 7-9V. Might put some pictu...

well..using the zalman fan controller, i set it to around 9 o'clock position which is a little more than 5V, 7 or 9. When i need it silent, i turn it down, almost completely down to 5V. It seems to work fine for now. I'm hoping there wont be any type of PSU meltdown in the future. :)

Best way to mount a fan on a Ti4200

Anybody got some good ideas on how to mount a silent fan on a abit siluro g4 ti4200? The sound generated by that little puny fan is amazing. Anyways the heatsink is to big to replace it with the zalman zm??(the gold fin one). Im thinking about mounting an L1A with some tape right under the heatsink ...
