undervolting vs reducing power budget on Ryzen 3700X

The most interesting thing in this article https://adoredtv.com/zen2-chiplet-quality-examined-by-cost/ was a chart generated by a Twitter user showing how Cinebench R20 multithreaded performance varied on a 3700X when undervolting and reducing the PPT limit. https://adoredtv.com/wp-content/webp-expr...

The 3600 + Scythe Mugen5 will still be with in the price of the 3600x.
Seems like not. Especially if you are going to upgrade the cooler anyway.

new system: AMD 3700X on MSI B450 Tomahawk

Upgrading from my 4770K. Originally I was thinking 3900X + Gigabyte x570 Master, but decided to go the lower-power (65W CPU) and fanless motherboard route. I couldn't convince myself that I really needed 12 cores or PCIe 4.0. The motherboard is pretty basic, but hopefully good enough. I'm on the box...

MSI x570 chipset fan curve

From Igor of Toms Hardware Germany (not associated with tomshardware.com anymore) - the issue with chipset cooling on the x570 is partly due to the smaller chip size which increases power density. The MSI motherboards (and I assume others) allow you to control the chipset fan curves: https://www.tom...

This article (nice find!) suggests a flow straightening grill on the intake side - the Nexus BeamAir seems to do this on the exhaust side.

Re: Using unofficial modular cables for PSU. Is it safe?

This may not be an issue with your specific scenario, but the serious problem with replacement modular cables is the connection at the PSU is not consistent between manufacturers. So your replacement cable may be expecting +5V and getting +12V - not good! See this: https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides...

Re: Ryzen 2700X idle power consumption

In the original TomsHardware review of the 1950X, the author noted the power consumption numbers reflected the memory speed set to 3200. This accounts for the 15w difference - the AnandTech review also shows this.

Re: Ryzen 2700X idle power consumption

I also have an Intel 4770K and I'm looking to upgrade soon. My UPS reports a system idle power consumption of 40W (the resolution of this figure is very coarse). However, I also have a GTX1080, 650W PSU, and multiple SSDs and fans. Idle system power consumption numbers reported by guru3d.com: 8700K/...

I have the GA-P55A-UD3P and I'm using 3-pin connector fans on CPU and SYS_FAN2 controlled by SpeedFan. Some more observations: 1. There does seems to be some RPM temperature dependency on SYS_FAN2 even though the BIOS only mentions "CPU Smart FAN Control." 2. My chassis fan (Noctua NF-S12-1200) shou...
