Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
Also got my build up and running, currently playing around with OC settings. I wouldnt say the case is "silent", but its *very* quiet at low fan speeds. With the 180mm fans at minimum (which seems to be just below 500rpm as also reported above), i actually think its the IB-E fans that are making mos...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
Just ordered all the parts for this a few days
The remaining parts should be showing up tomorrow. Ended going with the 840 EVO, as i got tired of waiting on the 850 EVO and the 1TB 840 EVO showed up as a black friday deal on amazon.co.uk.jonc wrote:Have you built this yet?

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
FWIW, I just took a bit of a longer look at the FT05 user manual, and it looks like that 160mm still leaves room for the cables coming out the bottom/modular cables to be plugged in with the HD cage still in there. While I will have a SSD, I would prefer at least one HDD for slower/bigger/longer te...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
I was interested to know if you've built this rig yet, as I'm looking to build something similar, based on an FT05. I am waiting for parts to come into stock currrently. My main concern is around the PSU and how it might fit with regard to the HDD tray. Silverstone say that a 160mm PSU should fit, ...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
I'm curious to see how MikeC evaluates these fans & this cooler, and of course: I was not able to test performance on lower levels, but if I base myself on the reviews found online, we might have a new champion in high-end cooling. Sounds good, too bad that it will (according to Cryorig) block the ...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
Regarding the FT05, just noticed that HardOCP has a review up at http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/10/24/silverstone_fortress_ft05_90_degree_atx_full_tower_review As far as air coolers go, we installed some of the tallest coolers we could find in the Fortress without a single issue. Even gigantic ...

In theory there are 2x 2.5 mounts on the back of the motherboard, would be ideal for a big ssds like Crucial MX100 512GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT512MX100SSD1 + a big 2.5 mechanical like for example Samsung Seagate Momentus SpinPoint ST2000LM003 2TB 2.5" SATA ...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
Regarding the FT05 case discussed earlier, it seems that neither the IB-E or the Noctua would fit, as it has a height CPU limit of 162mm? I have my doubts and it might not fit, but there is a post on OCN where naesmac fits a DarkPro (he says its 163mm) and another from Ziltoid , from thermalright s...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
Even at stock, they are reporting 216W though? I can't really help: set aside it's the entire system power draw at the wall (so the actual DC draw is a bit lower), the power measurements depends of the specific setup. Just for example, Guru3D reported 185W at the wall , loading with Prime95 their t...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
In that case (if you're hoping/aiming for 16x/16X) I'm afraid I might have some bad news for you. According to anandtech , the i5820k does not support 40 lanes, only 28 lanes, meaning that in SLI, you will always go 16X/8X, no matter which slots you use. That means that gamins-wise, your gain will ...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
[ They didn't stated the voltages (or I didn't find them), and with Haswell-E it's about all a matter of vcore/vring: at about 1.25 to past, the power consumption may skyrocket, depending of the specific chip. Not to mention they used Prime95 smallFFT, which loads the CPU to levels that real progra...

you can see my build on my signtature where i use R4 + SS860XP2, you can check the NF-A14 PWM on the bottom, you can judge if you think a 180mm PSU like the HX850i will fit, my guess is no I checked Fractals homepage, they list a max size of 170mm if the bottom fan is to be used. Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
The issue here is the behaviour of the factory overclocked GTX 980s under maximum stress Just FYI: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_980_STRIX_OC/23.html - 172W under gaming, 199W under Furmark. Thanks for that link. so calculating for ~200W for each GTX 980 seems quite reasonable actuall...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
I would stay away from the Samsung 840 EVO. It has a serious read-spead bug on older data, see anandtech . There is an fix out which works for Windows systems, but I am wondering if it is just a firmware glitch or that they are hiding something more. There are several competitors out there which mo...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
Any high quality 500-550W unit will be enough to face your needs. Really, even when we starting upping the voltages on the components? That's another, different problem: often the building cost difference between a 600-650W and an 800-850W PSU is risible (to say, 5 bucks?). But the higher wattage u...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
The Seasonic SS860XP2 has an avantage of most of the same wattage for the R4 and one of the primary reason i chose it, its 160mm, if the bottom fan placement is planed to be used, its better to get a 160mm PSU, else it will overlap, i believe some 170mm might be fine but will depend on the orientat...

Re: Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld
If i got SLI with GTX 980's at some point for example, and am running both them and the CPU OC'ed? A GTX 980 SLI paired with a 4GHz Haswell-E won't draw more than 430W while gaming. You might consider some 50-100W more for running non-reference card, but that's all. Hmm, i want to make sure i can m...

Could use a sanity check of my Haswell-E builld

CPU: i7 5820k (unchanged) Hoping for some decent OC, though without excessi...

Re: Which case and AIO liquid cooler for quiet X99 OC build?
Anyway, about your OC goal, there are lots of W (and V) of difference between 4.2GHz and 4.5GHz on Haswell-E: IIRC, Anandtech using either the Corsair H80i or the Cooler Master Nepton 140XL wasn't able to stay under 94°C at 4.55GHz, and I don't think they operated those AIOs at a "quiet" sound pres...

Re: Which case and AIO liquid cooler for quiet X99 OC build?
It's all about perspective: what's the prize for a lower temperature? Under throttling, it's very debatable. More probably that not, with a 4,3/4,4GHz at 1.25V Haswell-E CPU, about any of the first ten air heatsinks recommended by SPCR can stay comfortable under that threshold. Do you need more? Wh...
