enable manual fan control in ATI overdrive

Today my shiny new Sapphire 5750 Vapor-X is arrived, it work, but the fan is fixed at 40%, no way to change the speed setting with catalyst 9.12 and 10.1 under Win7 HP 64bit. Temperatures are ok, gaming is ok, too. But the fan setting don't work. Suggestions? Marco, In Catalyst Control Center (CCC)...

TrekNW - 10K - Running with the big dogs

First a confession... I decided to "get serious" and move from the windows client to the console version. I ran -config and answered "y" for my username instead of just pressing [CR]. didn't realize my mistake for a few days. I have an ugly suspicion that I'm not one only knucklehead that did that s...

Voltage Regulator explained, sort of...

John, Look next to the processor socket and you will see 2-4 coils with copper wire and a bunch of capacitors. This devices along with the Ingetrated circuits next to them are the voltage retulator for the processor. their job is to provide constant voltage to the processor. When you increase the wo...

I just bought the pabst fan from Silicon Acoustics up in your neighborhood. It comes with the 3 pin motherboard header and includes RPM monitoring. Mine is click-free @5v

the VREG header is for a voltage regulator fan, which gets hot when you overvolt/overlcock.

Some thoughts, (and questions...)

1. what is your definition of "totally silent"? Fanless? Or, is 20db acceptable. 2. what OS are you planning to use. XP is a resource hog. Linux treads lighter. If we assume that a 20db system running XP here are some considerations: 1. DDR memory is available with no price premium over SDRAM and is...

Looking for an isolator for a Enermax 120 Case fan

Unlike many other fans, the Enermax mounting hole runs the length of the fan body. the short rubber isolators that came with the Sonata chassis won't fit. any suggestions?

Using Speedfan for static fan speed control

My system has a HP ASUS OEM motherboard with CPU and case fan headers. the fan speed is controlled in BIOS but can't be disabled. Fanspeed works, but "backwards"-- full speed is 0%, and 100% stops the fans :? I have seen several other posters that consider variable fan speed a irritant. A workaround...

Why Leadtek Expert?

The new Expert card has a Conexant CX23880 Decoder chip with 10 bit video A/D instead of Fusion 8 bit decoder in the Deluxe card. My inner geek says go with the newer card for better capture quality. Newegg has a screaming deal on the Deuxe card and a avalance of postive reviews on their website. Tim

2 card ATI All-in-wonder (AIW) Alternative?

I have a ATI AIW 9000 and am looking for a fanless alternative that supports the same feature set. After reading some of the posts here and on the Zalman website it seems that getting a passively cooled AIW solution is problematic (the ZM80 only fits on the 9700 per Zalman website) and expensive. I'...

Antec Sonata Adventures

First, I'd like to thank MikeC and all of the contirbutors to this site and the forums. SCPR is a goldmine of information! :D I bought a HP Pavillion A250Y system this summer to do video editing. For the average PC user, the HP systems are a good deal (they use quality components) and the in-store C...
