I agree with MikeC that Reviews of commerical producst should not include modifications. The Manafacturer should give MikeC an average sample and MikeC should test it as-sold. However it would be sesnsible for somebody who has tested one of these things(maybe MikeC?) to mod it and write a seperate a...

I like the reference fans but i also have another suggestion. I've seen db charts in the past but they dont seem very memorable. It would be nice to have a well illustrated chart with the corresponding sound files for common sounds such as Threshold of Hearing ,Rustling Leaves, Whisper, Normal Conve...

CSS are much more powerfull than most people know, expecially when used with a mozilla browser that fully suports css1, IE doesnt support all features completely. CSS can be used to make menus and several things that previously had to be done in javascript. here are a few links of some crazy stuff. ...

Interesting concept. DC voltage is completley smooth with no periodic changes in voltage and PWM waveforms are square and choppy. By partway converting or smoothing a PWM waveform you would get a smoother wave, sinewave-like. In Essense a PWM/DC hybrid with advatages of both. An antennuator would fu...

I have dozens of buldings in the way so i dont think wireless would work 1.5 miles for me. I guess i need to make frinds with my neighbors :) I want to back up all my files and not just my boot partition. However i do agree with making several images of the boot partition. For the most critical file...

Some people hear the really high frequency stuff and others dont, i remember playing with a freqency generator and speaker in electronics class. A kid named Charles would alway yell at us when i turned it really high. Just to test it out i would randomly turn it on with a frequendy beyond my hearing...

Hmm he did mention the pipes are light. The size of the box won't matter, but the weight will. That's usually how it works for Taiwanese shipping as a company. of course, just meant it seemed odd for him to say "i can fit 2000 in a box" but that shipping will be the same under 5kg, if the two numbe...

Straker, brace your self, the reserator uses an eheim 300. Yes its barely powerfull enough to handles a lowflow cpu block and vga. I was saying that hvengals idea was overkill because you need ither a small interior faned radiator to keep the case air cool and ciruculating or you need a dozen waterb...

For the internal loop cooling i could use a WACC P/A Reserviour. http://www.themodfathers.jolt.co.uk/?page=&action=show&id=10357 Its similar to a reserator except that its doesnt contain an internal pump and they are made in several sizes 300mm 350mm 550mm and 1m. The 300mm version would be big enou...

I have considered this same basic idea and I have not found any drawbacks yet. Other than the complexity of the design and contruction. With proper design it should work and be close to totally silent. But I think the design has to be carefully done and getting it right is not trival. I would put w...

All I have to say about this is watch out for those hard drives. The SPCR review of the TNN-500A showed that even with proper cooling devices attached, hard drives should not be hard mounted. Who said anything about hard mounting HDs? Why would i hardmount my hard drives when i said i would waterco...

Servers also have the benefit of being always-on, and with UPS backups. The UPS and triple redundancy generators will keep the ramdrives external PS going so there woudlnt be data loss ever. Though frequent backkups are alway recommended. You would think that would solve all problems wouldnt you, W...

DonP, cooling the psu wouldnt be that much of a problem, there are watercooled psu's on the market, but theyre prohibitively expensive so i would probably attach some heatpipes to the psu heatsinks and connect them to a small waterblock. IF the psu still needed a little bit of air i would move it ar...

If you really want to give AVC some publicity, give MikeC or Ralf Hutter some heatpipe samples so they can write an official SPCR review on them, and heatpipe tech in general. Most of us here have an interest/curiosity in heatpipes. SPCR has over 5000 members and a growing influence in the world of ...

Noise escapes out the air vents in pc cases and dust comes in, if the vents were sealed and the whole case lined with foam the computer would be much easier to silence and keep clean. Has anyone tried this? One way to acomplish this, is using a fanless watercooling sytem. I would use a small central...

Hmm I need a final call on sizes of the pipes. I was going for 5mm but the 6mm ones (not really 6mm, thicker on 1 end and thinner on the other) have better thermal resistance. I thought 5mm would help a bit for projects as they are not too big to fit. Or should I have gone for the 6mm? I dunno, get...
