thanks for the replies... more so, if anyone can tip me on whether I should blow the cash on a 35W sempron instead of a 65W and just use Cool'n'Quiet? the cpu will be mostly idle anyway. Or will the difference in wattage even out in the electricity bill in the long run? (the pc will be on 24/7). Che...

Seasonic S12-330W enough for this spec?

Hi guys, I am interested in getting myself a storage pc that will consist mainly of: - 4x WD 320GB KS in RAID 5 - AMD AM2 35W cpu (one of them... a sempron probably) - 512mb RAM - Gigabyte/MSI raid5 capable mobo... - Probably onboard GFX So I am looking for a silent and safe (for the HD's) solution ...

How exactly did you think you could change the fan of your PSU *without* opening it?

Whining could be definately PSU.. but not specifically fan. Try shoving a pencil to stop the fan when the computer loads and see if it whines (to rule that out...)

What GFX card do you have?

It's a 120mm... so perhaps a Nexus/Papst? Dunno.. gotta make sure that the fan blows enough air for the PSU. Whats the amp rating on the stock fan?

PSU with 120mm mod idea

I thought about it.. looks kinda logical :) unfortunately I don't have a PSU with a 120mm fan and this mod does void warranty.. anyway.. take PSU, flip it inside case, open the PSU and flip the fan so it blows our out of the PSU and make a nice duct. Close off any other intake vents. http://maxx.web...

Poll: Does your raptor 36GB whine?

Hey guys,

I have a raptor 36gb version that seems to make a high pitch one. I've googled and found out that many people have this whine and was wondering if this is considered "standard" or if it's something that I can RMA and get a new drive?

Wooden HD box with paraffin wax?

Hey guys, Was thinking of making a wooden box for HD's (gotta silence that friggin raptor!). I was thinking of melting down some candles and coating the box in some wax, 1-2 coats. Do you think that the wax would melt due to HD temps? Will this have any impact on the high pitch whine that the HD mak...

My Viewsonic VP171b makes a high pitch tone when it is turned off! I have to disconnect it from the electricity if I want it to be silent. When it is turned on it is totally silent.

The importer said it can be easily fixed.

Watercooling component recommendations

Hey guys,

Im a w/c noob and I wanna make a w/c rig but I want it to be (of course) silent. Please recommend what parts I need + where to get them (viable CHEAP options from USA/UK).

Help! Sunbeam Fanbus problems :(

Had one imported from abroad... I hooked up 2 fans (chinaflos) to one of the controllers and it fried after ~2months of use. It refuses to go over 3volts and just stays on the red led no matter how much I turn the knob.. I can use the other controllers without a problem but I wanted to hook up some ...

1. Kill Fan Grills 2. Organize your cables... it's a real mess.. hide them behind the motherboard or something.. Just make sure not to reduce natural airflow. 3. Put VGA Silencer on Radeon. 4. Kill all intake fans. 5. Put better HSF on CPU. The stock one doesn't perform so well at all. Back in the d...

I just got me a bunch of Chinaflo's from SVC and yes, they do have differences noise wise, and I've changed the voltage with my sunbeam and seems that the even worse ones make a serious clicking noise.. fortunately, when in case u can barely hear the noise. Dunno, I'm no audiophile :)

Why is it best advice not to try software? It doesn't do any harm and is x1000 cheaper. Data recovery companies RAPE with their prices.

I think it's a waste of your time and money. You *could try* something that I heard allows the HD's to run for several minutes before croaking out again... put them in the freezer?

How "dead" is it? I mean, does it start and the data is corrupt or it makes noises and doesnt start at all? Does the BIOS detect it? Perhaps run a low level format on it with Seagate Diagnostic tools and then try to recover with EZRecovery? Recovering info from an HD will cost you a FORTUNE Edit: BT...

Fan filter alternatives?

Hey guys,

What's a good material for an air filter? I was thinking about pantyhose after reading the forums over at overclockers.com

Is pantyhose restrictive? Im thinking of having quite a bit of exhaust fans so I dont want the whole pc getting filled up with dust.
