i have the 1692wmli and i'm pretty happy. The fan doesn't run at all if you do light work or on idle. The laptop gets pretty hot that way though. If you start to do heavy work, the fan kicks in but the noise is quite acceptable. The laptop stays cool too. The fan in high-speed mode (just had that a ...

i also have a dual xeon 2.4 machine. before i switched to watercooling, i had these as cpu coolers: Swiftech MCX603-V. They take 8cm fans and are designed to fit right next to each other. If you want it really quiet, watercooling is the way to go. My machine is nearly silent with one 12cm case fan a...

i second the water cooling idea. i have a dual xeon machine which is very quiet (dual radiator with 2 nexus 120mm fans) + 120mm case fan + PSU fan.
if you have a big enough case you can fit the radiator inside the case (cut out a hole in the top).

I have two of them and they are very quiet. They have two slow-turning 80mm fans. They get a bit hot because there is not much airflow but both systems are stable (Dual Xeon running 24/7).

seems a bit slower than normal. i get 35:16 per frame on a 2600+ overclocked and 34:08 on the overclocked XP-M 2500+ (2.3Ghz).

(the A64 3200+ at 2.4Ghz does them at 29:26 per frame)
