Has anyone had an opportunity to play with one of the Z87 Asrock boards?
It looks like these have pretty solid bios based fan controls (unlike the Asus and Gigabyte board Z87 boards I have used)

Re: Gigabyte fan control for Haswell
Fan settings are not being written to the bios for me.Mr Spocko wrote:ET6 is not required to start up when the pc starts it writes the fan speed to bios. You can just start it once, exit it and uninstall it if you want (I just leave it on no start up for my pc)

Re: Noctua NF-F12 on Corsair H80 causing whine/whurring/buzz
nf-f12 is really more of a low pressure case fan. Actually, that's not the case. The NF-F12 is really designed for use on a heatsink or radiator and offers the highest static pressure of any of Noctua's fans. http://www.noctua.at/images/feature_graphs/noctua_120mm_fans_comparison.jpg http://www.noc...

Re: Gigabyte fan control for Haswell
Asus for bios purely isn't that great either, asus becomes really good with FanXpert, imo better than everything in the market in terms of fan control. Hmm, maybe I assumed too much from looking at the bios screenshots: http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6989/ASUS%20Z87-Pro%20BIOS%2038%20-%20Fans.png...

Re: Gigabyte fan control for Haswell
Unfortunately the controls from within the BIOS itself are still really terrible. I think I might try an Asus board instead.

Quiet external housing for hard drive?
Hey guys. I picked up a pair of these Macally housings Unfortunately they rattle and vibrate a lot. The drive is hard mounted to an aluminum rack which slides inside an aluminum shell. Its really pretty intolerable sometimes. Anyone know of a external housing that decouples the drive from the housing?

@Vulcan: 1000VA only lasts 20 min? How much power does your system consume typically? I refused to get a larger VA because battery replacements for higher VA models are too expensive. I'd wager a guess of 160-200W @ idle with monitor and some networking gear. Maybe 325-375W @ full load, which is no...

Did you read previous post? Or do you need it to be quiet also during battery operation? Also for what you're getting that UPS? I'd like it to be quiet even during operation. Someone ordered the p180 from newegg on 3/16/07 and he didn't get the p182. His p180 came from the NJ warehouse which is where mine is coming from too which worries me. The difference is that I ordered the p180b which everyone seems to be having luck with. It should be arriving next week. I'll upda...

Contemplating some P180 mods.
I'm thinking of doing a few mods to my P180. The largest is enlarging the top fan exhaust hole to fit a 140mm fan. I need to take some measurements, but I think it will work well. Actually, I might try to use dual 140mm fans in the top if it seems practical. In addition to that I want to work out so...

And you need hardly any cooling for RAM anyway, unless you have RDRAM. My RAM runs just fine without so much as a heatspreader on it. Thats because your probably running you ram at default speed and vltage. My ram is going to need active cooling when I'm pumping 2.3V through it. I'm a combination o...

Re: Do generic PSUs whine?
I have a quiet system that draws 75W at the wall at idle, 145W under load. Excluding the power supply, it's got two Recommended hard drives, and two low-speed 12cm fans. So it's easy to hear even faint coil whine, and that high-pitched squealing is annoying. I modded both my Antec SmartPower 500 an...

Is anyone aware of any reviews on the Antec Performance CPU Cooler ? I just happened to see it on Antec's site today and don't remember hearing anything about it before. Is it new? Hmm, I just read the specifications and it is small, fairly light, and has a fast, noisy 70mm fan. Off hand, I would s...
