Could be you have a fan with the cylinder that holds the bearings & shaft out of tolerance. Out of the 3 I got, one of them is like this. It lets the bearing "wobble" slightly, and leads to an annoying noise - even though its slight, I can hear it, and I'm very picky. I'm going to try to fix this my...

I got a chance to take a closer look at the shaft under sticker at lunch. It is secured with a nylon "C" washer, so if you pushed hard enough this would just pop off (doesn't look like you have to worry about busting anything - though I wouldn't recommend pulling off the fan this way). I was able to...

Yes, you've got it (no need to remove the foil sticker either). I was actually pushing quite hard as I wanted to remove the hub altogether. This didn't happen though (I'm googling for a way to do this now, I want to look at the bearings directly). Start by pushing the fan "back" towards the spokes, ...

I just got my Al evercools as well, and 2 of the 3 were making an annoying pulsing noise due to the blades grazing the plastic spokes. I was about to RMA them - which I hate due to the hassle - when I just bit the bullet and decided to rip one apart to see if I could fix it myself. I ripped off the ...

Will anyong here have access to OEM shipments early next month? I'm eager to find out if they've done away with the offline seek "feature" that was causing all the buzzzzzz.

Note it looks like all 5 models have the rear of the case perforated to the very top (so even with the active fan being at the middle of the case, any rising heat should be able to escape by convection and prevent a significant furnace effect). While this may not give ideal airflow, I'm guessing it ...

Excellent, just what I was looking for. Thanks Harp. Looks like the intakes for "silent" models are the holes in the bottom of the case (you can barely make them out in the pictures - just like the 73SL except no air filter this time), probably including a small grouping of holes at the front of the...

Well, couldn't find anything that directly applied, but these seem to partially explain why steel is better than aluminum regarding resonance. Most of it was too tough to decipher, but a pattern was there in the simpler summaries & diagram descriptions. In short, since steel is more rigid compared t...

Wow, I just realized that the other V1000 model has a redirecting vent on the upper exhuast fan (although it seems kind of shallow, and not enough to act as a real muffler)... Still, better to see some of these ideas starting to make their way into manufacturer designs. Man I wish there were more pi...

New LianLi PC-V1000 silent case
Anyone have more info on this case? Looks like an update to PC6070 & PC73SL, perhaps even with 1394 & front headphone jacks (if my eyes don't decieve me). I wasn't able to find much on Lian-Li's site yet. Note the V1000 above it has finally addressed the need for cool air flow for CPU (& harddrives)...

Those are the default alarm temps you are looking at, check out the data sheet here (see sentence F). I don't have one myself, but remembered those numbers from comparing fan controllers. Perhaps yours is just stuck on displaying the alarm temps instead of the actual temps? Note, the link above is f...

Anyone try WhisperMat or Hushfoam from www.800nonoise.com?
Anyone try ordering from this OEM supplier place? If so, did they give you a hassle for not being an oem/business?
Alternatively, anyone try from silentsource? Specifically the whispermat or the foam itself?
TIA

EAR Isoloss or Isodamp materials for soundproofing case?
Anyone try out the EAR products for dampening their case? E-A-R Damping composites & laminates The foam in some of the sample pictures don't "look" as impressive (seem too lightweight) as what you see in materials used for soundstage/tv studio applications, but does anyone know for sure? Also, this ...

I'm thinking of this enermax. It is kind of pricey, but it goes down to 4V and gives you a 4 fan knobs & 4 temp probes (just need to figure out a way to adjust or disable the low rpm alarm if you want to use them with tacho fans)...

Yup, I got a siig with internal connect (actual port, not a pin header). They have both out there, just got to search, ie: Like mine: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=673999&sku=K13-8000 This one has both internal ports & pin headers (usb2 & 1394 in one): ht...

Thanks for the replies. Ralf, so you concluded basically all the noise was due to sound from flow of air (whooshing?) and that both fans had same noise per flow rate (dBA / CFM), with the FBL able to top out at higher rate, correct? Sounds like the FBL/L1A is closer to the FBA/M1A then (at least for...

Conclusions on Panaflo FBL (louvered) vs FBA?
I've searched the forums and read several posts guessing that the panaflo L1A model starting with FBL would be quieter @ same CFM compared to the FBA in the mid-range voltage (and with some backpressure). Anyone able to verify this? Some of the posts said they saw no difference between the two desig...

Fortron based 460W supplies (i.e. FSP460-60PFN)
Anyone seen a review that tests the efficiency of FSP460 PSU? Wondering if it would be a comparable (and cheaper) alternative to Seasonic 460 (SS-460AGX). Hoping that going 460W will allow the psu fan to stay low speed at a higher load (3+ghz system) as the pretty picture here indicates for the SS (...
