Pummeled by Tinkers

I have p638 tinkers on all of my computers, two PCs and two Macs. This is the first time I've gotten a Tinker on a mac, let alone two. So my stats stagnate as I'm in day 3 of this awful Tinker storm.

I'm about to be passed by 4 people, and my threats list went from empty to full.

All of my processors are going to:
http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/use ... e=Artcubed

You'll see there are 3 active processors, but no points

all of the points are here:

Bizzare, bizzare.

What's up with that is:
I don't actually have any active usernames under ArtCubed :P All of my machines have the username Artcubed...somehow everything got switched over to ArtCubed on EOC/dyyryath's stats.

How that happened is a whole 'nother question, one which I can't answer.

Ahhhh! There are people on my threats list! Time to boot up the iBook and find a network cable to hook up the iMac! I'd like to be in the top 100 sometime within the next two weeks. I still need 2,300 points, but I'll get there real soon. The G4 is on full time too...it's quieter now. Far from silen...

Hopefully this will fix itself when he switches the system over (click "IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ" for more info on the list of teams page...and we're set, so don't e-mail the guy.)

If not, then I'll e-mail him to have it fixed.

External Enclosure Nightmare

I bought one of those CompUSA combo Firewire/USB hard drive enclosure things for my Western Digital 250 GB drive (the G5 doesn't take PATA) but this thing is LOUD LOUD LOUD. It's whining really loud, and seek noise is more than easily audible. The fan in the unit also makes some noise...but not much...

ArtCubed is the accurate one (I think...), in place 151 at the moment, which will chance rapidly as I now have 3 computers/4 processors (got the Dual G5 running overtime now) to fold with.

And yes, it was fun passing myself again. I passed TheMuffinMan as Artcubed, and then passed as ArtCubed again.

A) Is there any airflow at all? If you don't have any fans in the system, it may be the northbridge...I would also check the memory (RAM). My Athlon 1800+ w/SSE seems my P4 2.0 senseless - it pumps out way more than the P4. But I just plugged both of them in (WU's started within 10 mins of each other), and got similar WU's, and the P4 is expected to finish about 4 hours before the Athlon - so there ya go.

Antec Noise Killers

They're little silicone gaskets and silicone washered fan screws (they make 'em in various sizes and for power supplies) and they are great! They pretty much kill all of the vibrational noise - leaving only turbulence (which is only an issue if you have bad/closed up vents) They cost somewhere in be...
